Australian director Gabrielle Weller has enlisted Kate Moss, Mick Jagger, Kate Winslet and Laura Bailey to star in her new documentary Never In, Never Out.
Weller is a writer, actor, director and producer.
In 2016 her schedule will find her on both sides of the globe.
This coming June, in the gold rush town of Ballarat, Weller will play the lead role in her first feature length film, Box, directed by Samuel O’Brien.
In August, she will return to London where she will direct Never In, Never Out, which she also wrote and produced, about the life of fashion designer Thea Porter.
Weller said the two projects have provided a good contrast.
"They’re both challenging, but in completely different ways,” she says.
Box, developed by O’Brien is a poetic and surrealist screenplay, which is co-written by Weller. She will also take the lead role.
Box tells the tale of a girl recalling her tragic childhood, as a victim of family abuse.
Switching between reality and her self-imposed fantasy, Box explores themes of betrayal, grief, redemption and revenge.
In contrast, Never in, Never out recreates the glittering-world of fashion and music, bringing together a star studded international cast.
It is the story of Syrian-born, UK fashion pioneer Thea Porter who broke the Bohemian look in the 60s and 70s.
Drawing on Porter’s client list, Weller has secured interviews with; The Duke and Duchess of Kent, Kate Moss, Faye Dunaway, Julia Roberts, Diana Rigg, Mick Jagger, Michael Caine, Jemima Khan, Angela Rippon and Julie Christie for the film.
Kate Winslet will also narrate the documentary and introduce interviews from; Elton John, Joan Collins, Stewart Copeland, The Olsen Twins, Baby Jane Holzer, Britt Ekland, Cecilia Peck, Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Crystal Gayle, Barbara Streisand, Michael Butler and Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac).
Told through the lens of Thea’s unpublished memoirs, Never In, Never Out will be a mixed medium that combines; moving illustrations, cinematography, rich archival footage and imagery spanning fifty years of fashion and interiors.
The plot will take audiences from Jerusalem, Damascus and Beirut, to Soho, New York, and Paris to retrace the designer’s glamorous footsteps.
Weller describes the process of making this film as a "treasure hunt".
Never In Never Out shoots from August- October 2016 in Europe and Africa.
Weller will aim to premiere the film on the festival circuit, starting with 2017 Cannes Film Festival in June next year.
