I swear it's her, and I think there's an album credit, but I don't have my vinyl at hand to prove it. I think Dave Stewart said in an interview or book that the inspiration was when he saw Stevie dressing up in Victorian garb and she told Joe Walsh "Don't Come Around Here No More" one morning or something strange like that. So it would make sense she sang on it, because it was apparently written for her as well, and intended for something?

I don't know where the interview was but one of them had said she just sang the chorus. Her and Tom were hanging out with Dave and he played it for them, but all he had was the name, so he asked Stevie to sing it over the chorus part of the music, but that was it. He wanted to work on it right then and there but Stevie left and said she'd think about it. Then Tom said he'd like to take a crack at it and pretty much wrote it all on the spot, recorded the basic tracks and the song became the song we know today. Then Stevie was pissed. But later on appreciated the amazing song it became. I don't think she was credited on it but they've admitted that it is her voice on the chorus. I don't know about anywhere else. And when they toured together she sang on the chorus when he played it. The videos should be on YouTube.

It's her at 1:44 but I think that's it. You can hear her distinctive voice on the 'Don't come around here no more' but that's all she sings.
I found some information regarding this and this is what someone said: "Dave Stewart initially handed this song to Stevie Nicks. She recorded just the verse 'Don't come around here no more' over and over with no other lyrics since that is what was labelled on the tape that she was handed. She came back to the studio after a while to find that Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers had fully recorded the song and she got upset and walked out of the studio. They left some of her backing vocals on the track. Their Greatest Hits and boxed set has her way lower in the mix". Hope this solves it! |
