Default Rhiannon on American Idol

That Didi girl is doing an acoustic version of Rhiannon right now! (Ooh, she did the "dreams unwind, love's a state of mind" ending!)

~spoilers~

Randy: "a whole lot better than last week" but wasn't sure if there was a "wow" moment
Ellen: said she was nervous when she saw Didi was going to sing that song, but she liked what she did with it
Kara: said she thought Didi was "out of her mind" when she saw her song choice but said it was "one of my favourite moments of this show so far this season"
Simon: "I have to agree with Kara. I thought that was head and shoulders above anything else we've heard tonight" and said her "wow moment" was the entire performance, said it was a great choice of song.

I saw it too. I LOVED it. In my eyes she made it her own without losing sight of the song and melody. I thought it was awesome.

Oof, that was bad. Some songs were just not meant to be sung with jazz inflections!

Don't get me wrong... I like Didi, but it's only because she looks so much like a young Rickie Lee Jones. But that's where the similarities end. This butcher job cannot be forgiven.

I agree it wasn't the best performance ever, but I did enjoy finally hearing a FM song not being totally butched on AI. IMHO it wasn't.

I hope it gets her through to the Top 12.

I like her, but I thought it was too slow. And I think it would have been much better had she played piano instead of guitar.

I didn't like it. I thought it was too....I don't know, Jewel-sounding. Rhiannon is not supposed to sound like Jewel.

I'm not in love with it... but I thought it was okay.

Was she wearing platform boots?

It was yucky. Her voice sounded ok. But she treated the song as as something to hang her "OK" voice. That song is about desire and longing that threaten to sweep you away: a powerful moral Romantic vision. She reduced the song's meaning to a platform for her puny talent.

Actually, she and Siobhan should have switched songs.

I liked it, it sort of sounded like she used Stevie's piano intro as the basis for her arrangement. I liked it slowed down like that, I've often thought that Stevie should record a full band version slowed down like her intro.

I thought it was decent, considering how difficult it is to pull off a FM/Stevie song.

I was so ready to hate it.
But as she sang, I found myself really quite liking it. It was a good re-working of it and as skuncles mentioned, it reminded me of the piano only arrangement Nicks used to do before rocking it out. Although Didi was working a guitar. Really nice job and one of the best covers of Rhiannon I've ever heard.
