Default Have You Ever Been in a Car Accident?

Yesterday I was in my first accident in eight years. I was driving my dad's new car since my car is a stick and I only have one hand since my other arm is in a cast. I was trying to make a left turn and a small bus was coming towards me also planning to turn left. I thought the coast was clear so I started to turn but then I realized that there was a car coming up in the lane next to the bus that I hadn't seen because of the bus. So the car hit me and totally smashed in the passenger side door among other things. Fortunately I didn't get hurt but the old ladies who hit me wanted an ambulance even though they seemed ok. Even the paramedics said they seemed alright but they will probably try to claim that they were all hurt. I was worried that someone would notice my cast but the coat I had on was big and totally covered it.

Oh, that totally sucks...BUT good to know that you were not seriously injured...glad you're here to tell the tale.

As for me, I've never been the one driving when the accident occured (knock on wood)..but once a friend of mine and I decided to take another friend around town, it was her first time off the school campus lol...and our light turned green, so we started to go and some guy turned right in front of my friend, there was no way he could have stopped intime, but luckily we weren't even going 30mph yet...I didn't have my seat belt on, but was inthe back seat, so I just fell forward and hit the seat...no one was seriously hurt...but the guy who turned...he was yelling at cursing at us, calling my friend a speed demon lol....THe real topper was that my friend did go to the hospital just to make sure he was fine, and they put him in the same room with the other driver's wife...who was also claiming to be way more hurt than she was....

That has been my only experience thus far

I'm glad you're not hurt!
I was in several growing up; every time we were hit, including when my mom was pregnant with me. (Explains a lot, I know.) A couple times in the rain, once in the snow, once by a Bell telephone truck on a holiday. I was probably hit about ten times growing up. (Remember that scene in The Omen when the monkeys attack the car? I felt like Damien.) Crappy drivers where I grew up.
As a driver, I was hit (5-car pileup in New Jersey, Marissa) in 1988. In 1997 in Austin (on my way to Hyde Park Gym, Livia) I hit a car that was in front of me. The guy had slammed on brakes in the rain to turn left from the right lane. That killed my Prelude.
So far so good lately.
Car accidents suck. Even when you're not hurt, you are shaken up and in shock for some time afterwards.

I've only been in one wreck in which I was the driver.

Back in 2001, about three weeks after moving to Austin, I slid into the back of an SUV stopped at a red light and totaled my car. The SUV didn't receive so much as a scratch.

My first car (the Mustang) was victim of my irresponsible driving when I was younger.....

It was in 1996, I was 18, and I delivered pizza's. So I was coming back to the shop, and was in the middle turning lane (used by both west and east bound traffic) heading west and turning left. There was a big truck in front of me, heading east and turning to his left. It was night time and raining, so I couldn't see too well. So, I crept up to see around the truck, and I still swear to this day that no one was coming, and took the turn. Here comes this big "boat", a '73 Buick....lol, and buddy, it took out the entire passenger side of my lil '84 Mustang. I was T-boned really bad. A witness told me that my car spun around 3 times before it hit the tree and stopped me. I was knocked out until some lady came up screaming at me to wake up, asking me if I was OK. Then, here comes the paramedics. This guy literally begged me to go to the hospital, but I refused because I thought my dad was going to kick my ass for wrecking it. I wanted to see his reaction before I did anything. I was OK, a little sore for a few days.

Dad never did kick my ass!!

Almost 4 years ago I was a passenger in a car that was rear-ended. We were stopped at a light and the lady behind us didn't know the traffic had stopped and hit us at about 40 mph. I was very shaken up, and still panic a bit sometimes when I look in the rearview mirror.

It herniated a disc in my neck and I have had migranes ever since, along with left arm pain and weakness.

Thank God I had my seatbelt on or I would have went through the windshield.

And the spooky thing is: Tusk was playing on the car radio when the lady hit us. To this day, I can't hear that song without being reminded about how she "tusked" us from behind.

Default No, I haven't

been in a car accident, & I hope to God I never am. Since my state recently made it a law for people to buckle up, I've been wearing my seatbelt. It used to dig into my shoulder, but I got a little device that gives you some slack, so I wear it all the time now. And when traveling with my pup, I put him in a travel crate strapped in the back seat. I hate it when I see people letting their dogs sit on their lap when driving or bouncing around their vehicle. Could be very dangerous especially if you're in an accident!

When I was a baby we were heading to my nana's house for dinner and my mom hit a small patch of ice on an overpass and we went flying. The car flipped and both my mom and I came out unscathed.

On the way to Ocean City two summers ago, my friend was driving her dads car and wasn't paying attention to the fact that despite having come off of the AC Expressway, there is a traffic light about a mile ahead and traffic was starting to slow down. Well, we had 2 other cars following us and there was a car with an older man and woman in between those two cars. She slammed on her breaks and hit the Baretta in front of us (she wouldn't have slammed on her breaks if I hadn't yelled from the back seat, OHMYGOD STOP!). So, we crashed...in front of a gas station...on our way to the shore. Our one friend crashed into the old couples car...her car was completely totaled in the front...the other car was fine but at any rate, Lori caused a pile up. Yay Lori...lol

About a year and a half...two years ago on memorial day, I was heading to my friends house so he could get stuff. Well, again, coming off an exit (this time, 295) there was a light and as I went up the exit, it was turning yellow so I stopped. Christine (the *insert various explatives HERE*) that I used to be friends with had been following behind me and decided not to stop. So, she slammed into the back of my car. I? Was pissed off.

Oh, and the dog thing?? This is going years back but in Ocean City, MD there is a main highway that runs through the town...Coastal Highway. So we're on the highway heading south and we see this guy driving with his dog on his lap. I say to everyone, "he's going to crash." Well, sure enough, a half an hour later we come back and there he is...crashed...with the dog still on his lap.....

I was only in a minor accident where I was stopped waiting to merge onto the highway, and the girl behind me thought I had already gone (I admit to starting to go and then stopping because the guy coming was flying). She just tapped the back of my car. Other than that, I've had some HUGE miracles of not getting hit. The best one, this is great, was when I picked up a friend to go to school (high school years), and the roads were all ice. So I was going slow, but I had realized just how much of a slope it was from her house to the stop sign (which was only two houses away). I hit the breaks and nothing was going to stop me...I wasn't even slowing down, and the street is about 15 feet from a sharp curve, so you really have to be careful and stop at that stop sign and make sure no one is coming. Well, I glided right through that stop sign and saw someone coming at me. I remember thinking, well, this is it, I'm finally going to wreck (funny the things you think of when disaster is about to strike). Then, magically, the car just goes right around me. It was headed right for me, and the next thing I knew it was passing in front of me, and some other guy was stopped at my side telling me to go. I wish I could draw a picture here to show you just how insane it was...the guy had to have literally made an almost 90 degree turn to avoid hitting me. Anyway, sorry for all my long posts. I'm in between classes for two hours and am really bored.

I'm in Houston, and our targets are painted a little lower.

I totaled out my 96 Ford Escort in May of 2002. Basically a result of inexperience I pulled out to make a pass on a two lane highway I realized I couldn't make the pass so I tried to get back into my lane but I turned to sharply and overcorrected sending my car into a guardrail.

I came out of it with scrapes and bruses mostly on my Left arm from the air bag but I'm guessing if I didn't have the airbag I would have been a lot more severly injured.

I was kind of shook up about driving for about a year after that happened but the more I drove the easier it got.
