I was actually more shocked by how much Mick, in the documentary, downplayed Chris's contribution to FM. He said "she was an asset to the band" and barely anything else.

Only Stevie's comments seemed genuinely warm. But again, the men felt the need to downplay her absence. The band did the same thing to Lindsey when he left in 88.

Aaah, I see. I've just always seen their relationship as one of "Lindsey will not win this war". Lindsey was/is a petulant child and Christine was the stern mother who could tell him no. (Because...really, who else was there in the band? If Stevie Nicks said no, it would take fifteen minutes and somehow angels would be referenced and boinking would be had. And Mick double talks a lot. And I can see John doing it, but I don't see him caring as much about it.)

But I always had a feeling that if there was anyone in the band that truly respected each other, it was Chris and Lindsey. I just never saw his comments as a swipe at Chris - just misguided in his petulance and desire to "win" Fleetwood Mac, if that makes sense.

That quote was from Goldmine Magazine. She said something similar at the 1987 press conference when they introduced Rick & Billy as members of the band. She said she had the greatest musical respect for him, but that they weren't really friends.

I agree. I don't think she ever had a problem giving her opinion.

Fleetwood Mac did that Rockline radio show back in 1987 right after Lindsey left the band. Somebody asked Chris how things would work in the studio without Lindsey, since he was responsible for producing their albums. She replied that "they all had a hand in the production & it wasn't like they let him do whatever he wanted". That comment has always amused me, because I think "she" was the one she meant when she said "they".

I think it must have been difficult for them after she left.

I mean they could hardly say "well now Chris has gone we're going to be crap"

Yes that was one of the things. There are some more contentious moments with her and Lindsey also. She and Mick seemed in a weird place too. Not sure if her affair with him was on or off or what at that point. I do think it continued longer than either of them have ever admitted.
