Practice (as she'd say).

You're still a great lady & a great pal for doing so.

Her vocal work on "In the Meantime" is extraordinary because it's not only pliable & tone-sensitive but also quite experimental: she tries some new things with her lower register as well as with sound-sense phenomena as they pertain to emphasis & enunciation.

She has sung so uniquely & beautifully on so many Mac tracks in the studio that I'm not sure I could extrapolate from that history a particular album on which she sang the best. Certainly she was at the top of her game on the Mac reunion tour. Listen, again, to "You Make Loving Fun" on that album, & you will hear a vocal spot-on perfection that is actually the musical highlight of the album.

I agree with MacFan57 that she improved with age (perhpas like vintage wine?). But she also sounded bloody terrific from 1973-76: the bootlegs attest to the fact that, in that period, she was at the top of her game.

I think endless touring, drinking, smoking, and cocaine through the latter half of the 70s probably took its toll on her voice, especially on the Tusk and Mirage tours, but once she stepped away from that hectic lifestyle, she steadily regained her strength and voice. Her vocals on the Tango video, for example, are probably the only reason to watch that show. And I remember being shocked at how good she sounded on Time. I'd honeslty dreaded that she'd lost her voice by that point. Boy was I gloriously wrong!
