Default Bath Moles Club - I was there - another review...

Peter Green & Friends at Moles Club Bath - 2nd September

This is my first post but just had to put mouse to mouse-mat and describe the fantastic evening at Moles.

We queued outside in the miserable rain and didn't know what to expect as this is also the first time at Moles - we were let in a few at a time got our hands stamped, turned right walked three paces and there we were bumping almost straight into the stage!

Moles club as the name suggests is underground and very atmospheric. Having bumped into the stage (well an area about one foot off the ground), it dawned on us we were going to be at the front almost sharing the event with the man and his friends as if he was playing in our living room.

It didn't take long for the club to fill up and the buzz started to build - just after nine the band came on to a thunderous reception - Mike Dodd introduces the new sax player, this was his first night with the band, (sorry didn't catch his name as the cheering was too loud) - for those that might think a Sax may not fit in, IMHO, he was superb, especially for me on Long Grey Mare.

Peter Green was now seated within touching distance and looks great, he was smiling and happy whilst we watched him tune-up and then we were off with "Blues Don't Change"

Being almost part of the stage we were able to take a photo of the hand-written Moles set list positioned on the floor, (attached), as well as some other photos.

During the introduction, Mike Dodd said Peter had a new guitar, (again we were able to get a great close-up photo),

Everybody there was thoroughly engaged singing, dancing and clapping to all the songs apart from an almost reverential silence during Albatross.

As already mentioned, we had a birds-eye view and therefore could easily hear all of the friendly banter between Peter, Mike Dodd and the rest of the band. There was a great moment when Mike Dodd said to the audience that unlike himself, Peter never seemed to sweat, and was a "cool cat" to which Peter joked "I do in Winter" with laughs all round.

During BMW, Peter even did a little dance which prompted Mike Dodd to comment to the crowd "we don't see that very often"

Although Mike Dodd was the "front man" - Peter was definitely in control throughout, orchestrating events with a nod and a point here and there to the various musicians.

Here is the set list from the photo attached:

Blues Don't Change
Keys to Highway
Long Grey Mare
Sweet Marie
Lights Go Out
Sitting in Rain
Oh Pretty Woman
Guess I'm a Fool
Can't Stop Lovin'
Don't Let Nobody
Off The Hook
Dark End
Oh Well / Albatross
Stranger Blues
Thrill Is Gone
BMW / Stumble (Encore)

Couldn't really fault any of the performances and Peter himself played with consummate ease and was thoroughly enjoying himself from start to finish.

If you do get a chance to see the band in this sort of intimate venue, I would say cancel all prior engagements and get the credit card out
quick as they seem to sell out quickly.

We have some great videos to share but we are concerned about copyright issues - is it OK to post these?

Default Pics from gig

Thanks muchly for the review and pictures
I am glad that the sax fit in well.
It should

Let us hope that Peter keeps having fun at these
It would be a shame if he starts getting audiences there expecting a head chopping competition.

it would seem the very point of his return is finding fun and pleasure in music.

Ditto!!!!! Thanks so much for your detailed account of this, and your great pix, too. It's terrific to see the man looking so relaxed, comfortable, and even joking -- and playing beautifully, from what you've reported.

Kudos to an appreciative, respectful -- and very lucky crowd.

Default Thanks for the welcome...

Thanks to all for the welcome to the board, it is appreciated.

In response to zero - agreed, "geraint watkins is the man" and I did not know what a great voice he has - he sang with Peter on Dark End of the Street - superb !!

We attempted several video clips, including Long Grey Mare which I don't think has been posted anywhere yet so will try and get this one up on YouTube first and link it here...

Default Oh Well / Albatross Video...

OldTimer - thanks for the kind words - I feel a bit more encouraged.

Yes I took the videos with "my little fuji" compact camera.

We were fortunate to have a great, probably the best, vantage point so that made all the difference. Here is a link to Oh Well / Albatross http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=by31ZGJr_8o

There is some great banter at the beginning of the video between PG and MD; if Albatross does not give you the goosebumps then time for a checkup - just ignore the little bit of feedback at the start, it soon goes away.

I also have BMW / Stumble & Pretty Woman - it takes a long time to upload but can be done....

Great videos, TQ - thanks for posting them to YouTube! As OldTimer says, these are outstanding quality for audience video clips.

The volume from Peter's vocal mic seems like it was set a bit low - noticed that one some of the other videos posted from this show too. Did you notice that at the show, TQ? Or it might just seem that way to me since the whole audience sounds like they're singing along!

Love to see the other clips you shot whenever you have time to upload them!

Still to upload the encore - BMW & The Stumble - unfortunately like a true amateur, my memory card ran out just at the very end of The Stumble - got most of it though - Oh Well !
