Default March Drum Madness – 32 Rock Legends Compete For Your Vote!

March Drum Madness – 32 Rock Legends Compete For Your Vote!
by Matthew Wilkening March 17, 2015 12:51 PM

After the rousing success of last year’s March Riff Madness, we’ve decided to shift our focus this time out, and find out who you think is the greatest rock drummer of all time.
So we spent several days arguing among ourselves and compiled a field featuring 32 of rock, hard rock and metal’s most famous timekeepers. Our list may not be perfect – even to get things whittled down to this size, we had to make some agonizing cuts – but it offers an intriguing blend of genres, decades and styles.
As you can see, you’ll have some very difficult choices to make. You can vote once per hour in each of our 16 opening March Drum Madness battles until the first round closes on March 23 at 11:59PM ET. The ultimate winner will be revealed on April 7.

Mick Fleetwood Vs. Nicko McBrain: March Drum Madness

Two British drummers with different approaches to their instrument meet up in the opening round of our new competition, March Drum Madness. You can vote below for either Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac or Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden.
We’ve placed 32 of the most famous drummers in classic rock history into our March Drum Madness bracket. Over the coming weeks, their ranks will be cut in half in each of five rounds until we arrive at your choice for the greatest rock drummer of all time.
Coming out of the British blues scene, Fleetwood’s propulsive-but-steady drum work was the force behind such massive hits as “Rhiannon,” “Go Your Own Way” and “Tusk.” McBrain joined Iron Maiden in 1982 and quickly made his presence felt on Piece of Mind’s opening cut, “Where Eagles Dare.” He also showed that he could handle Maiden’s progressive side on the 10-minute “Seventh Son of a Seventh Son” as easily as deliver driving rock on “2 Minutes to Midnight.”
We don’t envy you for having to make this decision. You can vote once per hour in each of our 16 opening March Drum Madness battles until the first round closes on March 23 at 11:59PM ET. The ultimate winner will be revealed on April 7.

Default Someone had to beat him...

Queen’s Roger Taylor Wins March Drum Madness
by Ultimate Classic Rock Staff April 7, 2015 12:08 PM

We figured this would be a close one, and we were right. After starting out with 32 of rock’s all-time best drummers a couple weeks ago, the final results of our March Drum Madness are in.
Congratulations to Roger Taylor, who (barely) beat Neil Peart in the competition.
In one of our hugest readers-poll turnouts ever, the Queen drummer narrowly squeaked out a victory over Rush‘s mighty stick man with 50.51 percent of the vote.
It was a long, bloody battle to get to this point. Some of rock’s all-time greatest drummers — including John Bonham, Keith Moon and Charlie Watts — were eliminated to make room for the final two.
To get here, Taylor had to first conquer Mikkey Dee, Bill Bruford, Bill Ward and Ian Paice, most of whom he beat quite easily. But Peart gave him more of a fight. The two were neck-in-neck throughout the final days of voting, and after all the dust settled, he won by one percent of the vote.
So once again, congratulations to Roger Taylor, our March Drum Madness champ!
