Default Lindsey's guitar on NGBA

Does anyone know what kind of guitar Lindsey is using on "Never Going Back Again" on LIB? I can't quite make out the brand name.
Thanks!

Pretty sure its a Taylor. Those are SWEET guitars. I think he also uses another Taylor on Landslide.

It's a Taylor. He used a Chet Atkins nylon-string during the Out of the Cradle tour.

If I had to guess, I'd say he was playing a Martin in the original recording. But that's hard to say, unless he can remember and tells us. It might have been a Gibson.

There is a clip of Lindsey playing the song on a Martin. I believe that is from the Making of Rumours special.

Lindsey plays a Taylor 814CE during NBGA and Landslide. (he had two with him this tour) It's the same model he used during The Dance tour for Landslide too in fact.

It has a solid Sitka Spruce top and solid Indian Rosewood back and sides.

The "800" denotes the series of guitar (the woods and inlays used) the "14" denotes the body shape (in this case a Grand Auditorium size) and the "CE" refers to the "C" being a cutaway design for easy access to the higher frets and the "E" being for electronic due to the fact it can be plugged in, sometimes guitars like this are known as "electro-acoustics"..

I may be wrong CV but I seem to recall reading somewhere Lindsey used a Martin D28 guitar for the original recording, can't remember where I read it though!

That would make sense.

Thanks guys. Taylors are great, and this just might be enough to convince me to plunk down the $$$ for one.

Dude, let me dissuade you. Taylors are too bright and their construction isn't quite as good as Martins (one piece neck on the Martin's v. three pieces on the Taylors). Taylors are great for cutting through a band sound on stage, but they lack powerful lows, except for some newer models that copy the Martin bracing system. But heck, if you're going to buy a copy, why not buy the real thing?

And you can generally get a Martin cheaper too.

blinker12, Carne Vaca is correct in his assessment.

Taylors are great as a lead acoustic, awesome on stage because the bright sound really does cut through the band. Also how you play will make a difference... Remember that Lindsey uses his fingers which tends to dampen the brightness somewhat over a pick and even then he still sounds really bright!

In a studio surrounding then a Martin is a finer choice, I think they age better too (I've owned both Taylors and Martins in the past). Taylor use thinner wood so they sound a little more resonant and sharper than Martins but they don't age as well because of the thinner construction.

For what it's worth have a look at acoustics by Tacoma, Rainsong, Breedlove and the Santa Cruz Guitar Company. All those companies offer in my opinion a more sound purchase than Taylor.

Fleetwood Mac

Never Going Back Again

On the re-issued "Rumours", this Buckingham-Nicks duet features a subtle layer of electric guitar. It's even better than the original.

Twenty Best "Again" Songs: Play Them Over and Over

"Never Going Back Again" by Fleetwood Mac: Often overlooked because of the huge hits on Rumours, this folk tune showcases the unrivaled guitar work of Lindsey Buckingham.

Yep! Martin D28 for the recording, then Ovations for the 70s - 80s tours. Capoed much higher (if I recall) from the recording and modern versions.

I personally prefer the lower octave of the recorded / modern versions, but that's just me!

Cheers!

I remember Lindsey talking about his guitars.
He seemed to prefer his Martin(s) and Fender(s)
for the studio.

What that tells me is that he prefers their sound
over the Taylor and others. It seems he thought
the Taylor and I'm guessing the Rick Turner guitars
are better for gigging.

Personally I prefer Gibson acoustics. They seem a
little more articulate, not as bass heavy as some of
the Martins. In particular the D-18 and D-28.

Unless you're set on getting a Taylor similar to Lindsey's,
I'd say stay away from the cutaways if you're not going
to play with an amp.
