The Chain Original Demo Lyrics
I was just listening to Stevie's original The Chain demo, and I realized I don't really understand what word she is singing during the opening line: "Slipped into the 'blank" of my emptiness". I always thought she was saying "velvet" but I'm pretty sure that's not it. I've seen people say that the word is "fountains" which would make sense regarding the "canyons" of the next line. However, I don't really hear it. Anyone know what it actually is?

Since we're at it, I also can't discern what she's saying after the first chorus, meaning: "I don’t need the ???/but I don’t know what else to say"

I'm pretty sure she's saying "I don't mean to beg, but I don't know what else to say".

I hear "downstairs" but I'm not sure that makes any sense at all.

the song kills me. Listened again after seeing this thread. It's brilliant. But it's so sad - the pain. She was begging Lindsey to love her. Their pain was such an inspiration. Brilliant song.
