Sara was excellent. The bass line is a favourite of mine and I find it a beautiful song..the performance overall was one of the better I have seen live.

Am I hearing things or did she do the little "ooooh hoooo" in her upper register before the first verse of Sara?
This is the best live version of Sara I've heard in a long long time.

Someone definitely did it. Not sure if it was Stevie or if it was Sharon/Lori. Probably the latter.

I'd need to see a closer shot. She was singing those higher notes in the IYD doc so maybe she's not so scared of singing up there anymore?

I love Sad Angel. I think its a single. I really like Without You because its an actual real worked-out song she put thought into. It's sophisticated and it does sound like a Cat Stevens song, straight from the 70s. It's just a different beast from everything else.

Thanks, folks, for posting the songs. It's a treat to hear and see the band without having to pay overpriced tickets and deal with obnoxious crowds.
Not sure how I feel about the new songs. Without You sounds like it has potential, but should be tighter. It lacks dynamics. Maybe that's because they just chose to do it very simple on stage, but I hope a studio version has a more interesting arrangement. Sad Angel is, well, sad. I love that Lindsey is rocking, but it's so repetitious and so dependent on the chorus that you get the feeling this was written as something for radio -- nothing more, nothing less. It sounds like all the uptempo songs my 10-year-old daughter loves to listen to, except that this one actually has a guitar solo. Maybe it will grow on me, but right now it's kind of blah. |

Did anyone manage to get a video of Gypsy? It's one of my absolute favourites but haven't seen it here yet.

What I liked about the one shared line in Sara, "I think I had met my match, he was singing" is that when we wondered who the song was about, people would always say, "Well, it can't be Mick, because he doesn't sing."
So, they deliberately had Lindsey sing that line -- just a half sentence really, he stops singing midway and doesn't get to undo the laces -- to express that for that performance, he was the match, her match. He was the one who was singing. Now, I don't think the song is about him. I believe her, that it's one of those songs that's about several different things. But for concert purposes, I think they have Lindsey sing on that specific part for a reason and I found it very effective. Michele |
