Who played lead guitar for "The Apostle", and "Last Train to San Antone"?
If someone can confirm that Peter Green played guitar on both tracks, I will buy the albums. If veteran fans' think it's Snowy White, I only need the San Antone track because I can recognize Peter Green's voice. I know this has been discussed before, but with the lack of attention towards the Peter Green message board, I thought I would help to keep it alive!

Confirmation...as in proof? We could always locate Peter Vernon-Kell who ran PVK records, or something.
Clearly Peter plays the main melody guitar on "The Apostle", but that was not one of the tracks we discussed earlier. It was "Seven Stars" and "In the skies" etc. Snowy White was not involved in the session for the song "Last train to San Antone". Ronnie Johnson played rhythm guitar on that. |

i go with dino on this too

What is known is that the tune is derived from an old song that Peter's grandmother gave him inspiration from. This would lead me to think he played both parts in the studio. you will also find that the guitar arpeggio is buried in the later mix and single release of this song. On the album "In The Skies" it is incredibly simple. I would have to dig for the Album cover to look at the official listing of who played what. the CD from the PVK re-release doesn't say. Either way it is a beautiful somber song worth getting. If you get Apostle by itself you then have to decide which version you want. "In The Skies" has the simple sparse acoustic arrangement vinnie c |

Thanks for the information. I've been leary of getting PG albums from this period because of what was written in the Celmins bio. However I heard "Last Train..." on Sirius Deep Tracks around July 4, and had to have it. They were doing a weeklong retrospective on FM using snippets of a recent interview with Mick Fleetwood. Mick didn't pull any punches declaring Green the best musician the band ever had.
If the acoustic Apostle is on "In the Skies", where can one find the version with the electric guitar? Do I have to buy the 2 CD "Man of the World" collection? Last edited by slipkid; 08-19-2009 at 02:54 PM.. |

BTW, there's a electric guitar on both versions. And yeah, you should get it, cause it's effin great! One of Greens finest moments, IMO. |

Apostle recordings....
I have 5 cd's with Apostle on them:-
Blue Guitar. (Acoustic) Pop and Rock Legends, Peter Green. (Electric with Acoustic accompaniment) In the Skies. (Electric with Acoustic accompaniment) Peter Green: The very best of. (Electric with Acoustic accompaniment) Man of the World: The Anthology. (Electric with Acoustic accompaniment) By the sound of them, all 4 Electric ones were taken from the same original... but the quality of sound on MOTW: The Anthology is significantly better in its reproduction than the other 3. |

the same recording is in both "Kolors" and the Peter Green Anthology" both are great additions to collection as in all new CD releases, I just wish they would find a bigger more readable FONT even if it would mean an extra page or two. doodyhead |

Then there is also the single version with his former wife Jane playing violin.

Are you sure? Isn't the single version the one on "Blue Guitar" and the "Kolors" re-issue? And do we have any proof that the wife played on it?
