I don't think her voice sounds any different, she's just singing it differently, much softer than the belting we've grown so accustomed when performed live. Others have said they believed her voice to be altered but I'm just not hearing it.

I have the entire CD. I got it a couple weeks ago and I seriously can't tell one way or the other. I think they lifted the vocals and maybe just touched up here and there. the audience applause is next to non-existent. there are some vocal parts that I remember loving when I was 2 feet from Stevie at Soundstage and they are on the CD so I'm just guessing. either way, the sound quality of the CD is amazing. I really love having HSML, Crash Into Me and BATB in such high quality sound.

I'm really looking forward to getting this cd. I especially want HSML on record. That's a mood song if I've ever heard one! Good to know that the sound quality is amazing. Thanks for sharing.

I just received a review copy of Soundstage and Jazmen is correct. They augmented the Soundstage recording with additional vocals, strings, etc. The press release confirms it.

This is directly from the one-sheet press release:

Stevie Nicks "The Soundstage Sessions" CD includes 10 songs from the "Live in Chicago" DVD. Nicks brought the songs from the show to Nashville and worked once again with Joe Thomas in the studio where they added "Nashville strings" and additional vocals. The CD features a lush orchestral version of "Landslide" and other Nicks gems including "Stand Back," "Crash Into Me," "Sara," "Fall From Grace" and "If Anyone Falls in Love."

I'm glad Stevie chose to do the CD this way...it gives it more of a "studio record" vibe, and it makes for easy listening. Some live records are produced to the point where you cannot even hear the artist because the audience is so loud.

And we'll be getting polished "live" versions of Gold Dust Woman, Enchanted and Edge of Seventeen from these studio sessions as exclusive downloads from Amazon or iTunes on March 31.

I heard her opening night of the CV tour and I can tell you she sounded better then I had ever heard her live. On certain songs she sounded like she does on studio recordings from the 79-83 voiced years.

I doubt they did much altering of her voice. Stevie has always seemed like the type who really discourages that kind of stuff. Wasn't she the only (or at least the first) artist to insist on singing live on Solid Gold?

I hope they did not mess with Stand Back too much Jazmen!!

I thought Stevie sounded AMAZING during this show and figured they used autotune or something while she sang live- she sounded THAT good.

I am basically buying this for the stellar Stand Back and Crash. And I hope they sound similar to the show.

Sorry for digging out this old thread.

Does anyone know why "Crash Into Me" was slightly edited?
It's around 1:15 when she sings "in a boy's dream" while originally, as on the DVD, she repeats the line "I come into you"?

The title of the CD rather obscurely implies what your getting. Soundstage Sessions doesn't declare itself as a purely live album. Most of us assumed was going to contain the live versions of songs performed on the Soundstage concert/DVD. In that case it would have "Live" in it's title

It's my understanding that she took the performances from the show into a studio, and tinkered with most of them, thus the "Sessions." title. The known secret is that some"Live" albums aren't exactly a direct copy of the show performance. They are cleaned/beefed up in a studio to fix sound deficiencies, bad notes, off-key key vocals, etc.. They did this on Fleetwood Mac's Live album.

Stevie wasn't dubious about Soundstage Sessions. We just had a different expectation. It seems to be a half-breed of live and studio work.

Yes, I see where they were going with this release and I also think it was a great decision to mix/alter it this way. Some songs, as "Sara" for example, fade out earlier instead of ending like the live versions, but I was really surprised that "Crash" was edited that way in the middle of the song.
