Keys
What are each of the band members' keys?
I only know that Rhiannon is in A minor and Thrown Down is in B flat minor. I think Say You Will is in B flat major. Sad Angel and Miss Fantasy were intentionally cut in Stevie's key alongside the other half dozen songs LMJ did that ended up on BuckVie. What key are those songs in? What is Lindsey's key? What about Christine or Neil's? I find this interesting, sorry if it's boring as bat **** to you guys. |

Individual members don't have specific KEYS. Most artists do songs in many keys. Well, except Stevie, who has done 99% of her catalog in F.
But I've always suspected that that's because she only knows 3 chords on the piano. F,G, and Am(which is only one note different than F).

Stevie if it wasn't for Lindsey all of her songs would have been in a 3 note range. If you noticed, the final finished product differed from her demos in that Lindsey would arrange the melody to have more of a melodic range.

Homer, can you explain to me what you mean by she only knows three chords? You say she only knows F, G and Am, but surely everyone who plays piano knows the C major chord or the C major scale. She plays much more fluidly than me and I have had two years of lessons and know a lot more than three chords.

If you've ever watched her "play" Dreams solo, ALL she "plays" are those two chords(F and G), over and over. It's mind numbing, because it's so... amateurish.
She should stay the hell away from any pianos, and stop embarrassing herself.

she's even talked about Waddy finding her stuff a bit boring and unchallenging in terms of having to play the same chords over and over and over.
Wasn't it Ken who said she only knows 3 chords but she can write you 40 songs with those chords? For a while, like during the 70s, she kinda tried a lot harder with her piano playing because she felt a bit self conscious about how poorly she played compared to Chris. (Listen to her playing on the demo for Sisters). It felt like around the solo album era she really just kinda slacked off (Listen to her playing on the demo for Bella Donna--- and don't confuse the one of her playing two fingered piano with the demo of Roy Bittan playing ) She did for a time say she considered lessons but people around her told her if she started learning and worrying about following rules it might stymie her creativity.. she says "even Lindsey" told her not to mess with it. Maybe he was just being evil and didn't want her to be better formally trained than him.
