Default Kentucky Derby

Anyone here betting on the derby?

I already placed my bets, about $70.00 worth! I forgot the names of my horses, but I went with some wins, but mostly trifecta boxes and trifecta wheels!

This is gonna be a great race!

I never watch the Kentucky Derby but today I did and I regret it. I picked 8 Belles to win and was excited she came in 2nd. That excitment turned into sadness quickly as she had to be euthanized.

This was an extreme freak accident. Horses don'r break two legs galloping out AFTER a race. Very sad...but that's horse racing. Keep in mind that horse live a life, albiet brief, of luxury. Daily grooming, good food, vets. Don't feel sorry for a horse that lived better than a lot of humans.

I have been watching and going to horse races since I was a kid, and I had NEVER seen anything like this.

I just wept like a baby when the vet said that they had to euthanize her. How terrible.

I know...very sad. This is the first death at the Kentucky Derby that I've ever heard of.

These are 1200 lb animals running on thin legs. It's the nature of the breed. Many tracks, including all in California, have gone to a synthetic, rubber surface to alleviate the stress

Latest update. Eight Belles may have suffered a heart attacked that caused her to collapse. The two broken ankles were the result of the fall. This makes more sense. Horses just don't break two legs simultaneously when not even racing. An autopsy is being performed to find out exactly what happened.

Oh such a tragedy, poor little belles. She's a little angel now free and galloping in endless fields of sweet blue grass..

Well, at least her misery was ended swiftly on the track and not dragged out for a year like Barbaro. I'm reading her owners are devasted.

I didn't watch the race (forgot it was on yesterday). But when I read the sports page today and heard what happened with Eight Belles, I started bawling.
