That's what I was thinking. Whoever thought it would be a great idea to turn YMLF disco should be flamed. I heard this version a few years ago and also had trouble believing it was Cyndi. The sad part is, with a better arrangement I can imagine a Cyndi cover of YMLF being incredible!

Thank you! I'm a huge Tori fan. I think there was a raisin girl but unfortunately she went to the other side.

Yes, it's Cyndi Lauper. Yes, it was recorded about 8-10 years before she became famous. The mp3 of this has been floating around since Napster was free and the king of download sites. End of story.

Now, if you'll excuse me for a minute, I have to figure out a way to put blood back into my ears.

I am sorry to report this, but that is NOT Cyndi Lauper singing that song. I don't know who is singing it, but it is not her. And the person that put it on youtube needs to know that. That is NOT her, and if it was, she wouldn't make a horrible cover of that song like that chick who was singing did.

For comparison, here's a compilation of snippets from Blue Angel demos that Cyndi recorded between 1979-1980. The song "Never to Be" isn't her; it's Britt Savage who replaced her in 1981 after she left the band. It was another case of mistaken identity since a lot of people thought it was her, until I asked Lee Brovitz (BA's bass player) and Britt herself about the song.
you can hear similar vocal nuances here, since they were from the same time period. |

I posted this about a year ago. The download links are still good.
"You Make Loving Fun" was the first song ever officially released by Cyndi Lauper. In 1977, Lauper was commissioned to record several songs written by other artists. The only release to come of these sessions at that time was a 7" vinyl single of this track. Details about the release are unknown even to Lauper herself, who did not own her own copy until a fan gave her one in 2002. Lauper then remarked she was paid only twelve dollars for her work, to "sound like someone else." After Lauper's later success, a 12" vinyl single featuring new remixes was released in Japan in 1984 on a small independent label called Jam Spot, which was a division of Yamano Music Co. In 1989, a 3" CD single also surfaced in Japan with the same mixes. All of these versions are considered rarities in Lauper's catalogue.
