Tons of talent. Brilliant musician. It’s his people skills, at least as they relate to Fleetwood Mac, his inflated sense of importance, and how he wasted so much time in his career that are the problem.

I see and I hear you. But you do know that Christine and Mick have said that he knew best what to do with Stevie's demos?

OTOH, by SYW, she had others she could work with. Lindsey, for whatever reason, couldn’t understand that. It’s like he forgot that Stevie made three solo albums and a Fleetwood Mac album since they last made an album together. He couldn’t or just didn’t adjust to that.

Well he worked with her when she made solo albums too. Did Stevie say she didn't like what Lindsey did to her SYW songs?

I believe the exact quote was “my demos sounded better.”

However, that’s more of a Buckingham Nicks dynamic. My bigger issue is how he downplayed the contributions of Mick, John, and Christine and made an effort to bypass them as much as possible on his songs. He totally had a chip on his shoulder the whole time he was initially in the band, which he didn’t want to join in the first place. He always thought he could’ve made it without them.

Interesting. So would you say Behind The Mask is the best post-1974 Fleetwood Mac album?

Still trying to wrap my head around that stretch in logic. I wasn’t aware you had to completely approve of someone to like their music. I would think someone who has certainly been critical of Stevie yet is still a fan would get the concept. I guess people don’t apply their own rules to themselves.

The 1975 album is my favorite. It’s an incredible band effort that was well produced without having excessive extraneous production (car horn notwithstanding). The songs, the voices, and the musicianship spoke for themselves. There are more setlist staples on that album than Tusk, Mirage, or Tango and they did it in just three months.

I’m not saying Lindsey’s Brian Wilson boner didn’t lead to some incredible music, but the excesses and musical fractures it led to was ultimately the band’s undoing as a working entity. For all the “Tusk is a masterpiece” comments, I have no doubt it would chap Lindsey’s ass if he knew people preferred the full band versions of his Tusk songs on the tour rehearsal videos.

This thread exemplifies why I would rather that Stevie not perform a Christine tribute — it always ends up being all about Stevie anyway. But if she does, I would guess it could be Everywhere. It won’t be Think About It because that wasn’t a big enough hit.

As for Lindsey’s likeability? As someone who does like his music, even the tracks with little input from the band, yeah, he seems abrasive at least when it comes to Stevie and at times smug when dealing with the band. And historically he’s had some terrible behavior. But really aside from Christine, they’re all kind of terrible people (or at least have had periods of terrible behavior in their pasts) on one level or another. How one reconciles that with liking the music is an individual decision.

Lindsey was always my second favorite member. He's now my favorite living member. He's the creative genius behind their success. They all owe him, BIG TIME.

And one of the things I love about him most, is that he CAN'T STAND Stevie, and pushed the old goat's buttons at every chance he ever got. Because she's INSUFFERABLE.

God damn I love him for that.

I think if she does one of Christine's songs, it would have to be Don't Stop. It wouldn't be a big risk for her since she's done it with her solo band before, and it's a crowdpleaser that the casual fans in the audience will know.

Regardless of whether Stevie should sing Everywhere, I don't think she could. It would have to be transposed into a key in which Stevie could hit the notes, and that would be so far removed from the original that it would be near unrecognizable. Either that or the backup singers pretty much sing the entire thing.

How’d that go for him?

Well, I suppose if money is the critical measure here (right, because she who is most popular/has the best sales/sells the most seats, is who is in charge), then he sued them and got paid what he would’ve made without playing ~100 shows? I guess that’s how it worked out…
