Default The Music Video Exposed w/Russell Mulcahy

Caught this last night on VH1 Classic. Anyone else see it?

Russell Mulcahy was the director of the Gypsy video. He talks about Gypsy and some of the other videos he did early on. Mick talked a little bit and Russell was reminiscing about the scene where Stevie runs out in the rain. They were actually on location at that very stop (not sure what street is was on in or near LA) and something to the effect that one of the rain machines swooping by almost decapitated Stevie.

They also had Bonnie Tyler on and I kinda missed what happened that made Russell tell Bonnie to "F off" in response to her asking him to direct her next video after Total Eclipse of the Heart. ???

Something about Stevie twirling around in the rain in enchanted forests with children, while nearly having her head severed is tremendously entertaining for some reason!

Oh, this is why Fleetwood Mac should do audio commentary for their videos like Stevie did for CV. We got so much pleasure out of Stevie saying the horse tried to kill her. To hear her say how she was almost decapitated or almost died of the heat in Hold Me would be priceless. We would be quoting the commentary for DECADES to come. I'd almost rather have it than a new FM album, in many ways.

Thanks for posting. I will tape it.

This was very interesting to watch.

Apparently (per Mulcahy) the scene was filmed near the intersection of Sunset & Hollywood. My best guess is that the video was filmed on/very near the old Monogram studios/lot (which is now KCET). Anyone else have info?

How ironic that it would be filmed right across the street from the location of the massive set built for DW Griffith's "Intolerance", of which the "Gypsy" video is a complete homage (the various settings, the costuming, even the editing)

The Wayne Isham episode is on tonight, yes. The Russell Mulcahy episode is currently not scheduled to be re-aired.

Steve Barron ("Hold Me") gets his own episode on February 26- I bet Fleetwood Mac gets a segment, especially since Mick was interviewed for Mulcahy/"Gypsy".

Those videos deserve a proper quality DVD release, with or without commentaries! (Though of course with is preferable )

You can see the episode on the Vh1 site here. Gypsy starts at about the 13:00 minute mark.

Apparently, music videos of the 80s were not just awesomely plotless, nonsensical, and tacky, they were also threatening to the life spans of our favorite stars. How about an episode of "The Music Video Exposed: (Nearly) Fatal Bloopers?" Does it make me a sick person that I want to see the footage that must have been recorded during the Gypsy accident?

Coincidentally, didn't Stevie say she thought she was beheaded in a past life?

Less than three weeks after the "Gypsy" shoot, the Twilight Zone Movie tragedy (helicopter crash that beheaded Vic Morrow & two child actors) happened across town. I'm sure that freaked Stevie out.

Yeah. She says that's why she can't throw her head back without difficulty. Even though she's often been seen throwing her head back.

An advertisement for the Steve Barron episode aired, and "Hold Me" wasn't one of the snippets shown.
