Lightbulb On this date in history....

Candygram

In 1977, guitarist Peter Green, formerly of Fleetwood Mac, was committed to a mental hospital in England. He had fired a gun at a delivery boy who was bringing a royalty check to him.

Aaaaarrrrhh!! Sorry, Livia, but I think we need to stop perpetuating this myth about Peter Green. He never fired a gun at anyone, and contrary to popular belief, he was not upset about royalty checks being sent to him.

According to Martin Celmins' book on Peter, he was actually pretty well broke at the time of this incident, and he was unhappy that Clifford Davis (his manager at the time) was not sending him his royalty checks. Peter admitted threatening Davis, but it was over the phone, not in person. From what Celmins' book says, Peter did own a gun but it was in a box, and 50 miles away from where he was at the time. Celmins still refers to this as the "shotgun incident" since it's become known as that, although Peter never actually came after Davis (or anyone else) with a gun as the story has been told far too often.

Peter's story of mental illness is sad enough without stories like this one being blown out of all proportion. (Rant over)
