Jeremy Spencer in old NME about "Story Of Jesus"
Hi everybody,
This is an NME article from 24 May 1969, where Jeremy talks about a future project that sadly never happened. Perhaps Jeremy has some memories about this project? Was it supposed to be only instrumental music? Did any of the songs appear later on the "Jeremy & The Children" LP or elsewhere? How about the three Peter Green songs mentioned? Was one of them "The Apostle" (that was released years later on his "In The Skies" LP)?? And I've always wondered about the song "Refugee", that Mick Fleetwood mentioned in an interview. Daniel |

Thanks for posting this article, Daniel! I'd read about the planned religious album before, but it's great to see the actual article where Jeremy mentioned it. Good questions about whether it was planned to be all-instrumental, and whether any of the planned tracks might have turned up on any of Jeremy's other albums.
I've wondered for years about that "Refugee" track. I have an book from the late '70s that mentions "Refugee" was supposed to be a single from Peter's then-upcoming comeback album (In The Skies), and that it was written when Peter was still in the band. Fleetwood is quoted as saying one of the instrumentals from the album was "Albatrossy", and I've always assumed he was talking about "Apostle". It's not clear from the book whether "Refugee" and the instrumental mentioned ("Apostle"?) might have been the same track. It wouldn't be the first time that a song was renamed. And maybe it was indeed a track that had been originally considered for the Green-Spencer religious album. |

I guess it's a fair chance then that Refugee=Apostle. I think Jeremy Spencer once listed "The Apostle" as one of his favourite Peter Green composition. So it could be that it was originally intended for the religious album they had planned. How about it, Jeremy??? |

Refugee =Apostle

It had nothing to do with that idea of Jesus' life album to my knowledge. He played the flip 'Tribal Dance' or something, which I didn't like! Hope that's of some help! Jeremy. |

So, was the Jesus' life album going to be instrumental music, or songs with lyrics too? Or did any of the songs appear on "Jeremy & The Children"? Last edited by dansven; 08-15-2009 at 04:37 AM.. |
