So good to hear this thing is off the ground!!!! I hadn't heard much about so I wasn't sure. After all, the post-ABBA/Queen musical madness seemed to be a bit too much excitement than anything real. Woohoo!!

Fleetwood Mac musical?
Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” may be heading to Broadway.

There are plans to turn the songs from the wildly popular 1977 album into a musical, roughly in the same way lyrics from various Abba songs were used to make the Broadway hit musical “Mamma Mia,” a source tells The Scoop.

“Most of the songs from [Rumours] were about the relationships between various members of the group,” a source says. “Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham’s relationship and Christine and John McVie’s marriage. . . It has the potential to be an intense musical play about love and heartbreak.”

Carl Stubner, the band’s manager, tells The Scoop that he’s had discussions with Matthew Vaughn, who produced “Swept Away,” and film and theater producer Robert Fox about bringing “Rumours” to the stage. “It’s all in the preliminary stage, so I don’t want to say too much now,” he says. “But I think we can make this happen.’

No, Les, you're not alone. I'm APPALLED that they'd even CONSIDER the idea. Maybe the "Shaman of Good Taste" will interviene and the rights to the songs won't be granted.

I can't imagine Stevie and Lindsey going for it. Stevie seems to want to be the only one to tell her story, because she wants it done correctly, and frankly, I really believe there is ALOT we don't know. There are big chunks of the story that are only known to Stevie and Lindsey, so either one of them could come off looking pretty bad in the public eye.

What happened and continues to happen concerning their relationship is really private, and despite the fact that they both write intensely personal songs about each other, I think they want to be in control of what aspects are made public. They write their cryptic messages to each other, and if the fans get it, fine, and if not, then people can apply it to their own situation.

Lindsey is such an artist's artist, and he has never done anything he considered to be "selling out" like licensing songs for commercials (although someone did say GYOW was used in a rental car ad) that I can't see him going for it either.

They want us to know the parts they tell us, and I also feel it is really important to them both, especially Stevie, to continue to keep us all wondering about the rest. She has to keep that air of mystery, and Lindsey is just too private a person.

Christine and John are a little harder to guess about. I really can't speculate on them. There's no telling, but if S&L say no, then that will kill the project anyway.

As much as I would find it entertaining, I really hope it falls through, because there is no way it can told completely.

I just think it cheapens what really happened.

25 years ago, it was a very real thing...now its some legend and now they are turning it into a play...like its some fictional story.

These people really lived this..and as OK as they are NOW...they are still not fully recovered ..its just a shame that all that matters is money.

I think the play is a bad idea.

If they used 'Rumours' to tell the story of fictional characters' lives, then it *might* work.
After all, this music is the soundtrack to many of *our* lives... so that could be done, and could be done well.

But, if they try to tell Fleetwood Mac's story using just 'Rumours,' then I think it will fall very flat, and will reek of crass commercialism.

But that's just my opinion.

Yes, Johnny you are right, and that is part of what I was trying to say. There is much more to it than just Rumours, you know!
If they are attempting to tell a complete story using only that, then it will most definitely flop.

I like that idea a lot JS...besides, how many of us are there who can't relate at least one FM song to our own personal lives....? Incorporating FM songs into a fresh storyline with nothing or very little to do with the band members themselves would be amazing, if they managed to pull it off well.

But like everyone above, I do think that turning the story of two couples' very real and very painful (to this day even) breakups into a play is highly inconsiderate. However, I would be lying if I said that I wouldn't go and see it if they did do that.

I'm pretty much with you too Johnny. I'm still not sure how much I really like the idea of any musical at all based on FM music, but I could live with it much easier if the music is the basis for a fictional story. If it is based on the band's real story (and I'm still unclear if it is or if it isn't), I just cringe for them already.

JMHO, but I honestly don't see what the problem is either way. I would THINK that if the storyline is straight out of the pages of Fleetwood Mac's existence, that it will not fare too well, but nobody really knows. Obviously from the article, the characters are going to be BASED on the members of Fleetwood Mac...you can get that from the descriptions. But I'm straying from my point. Who really knows? This could be such a great thing. Why don't we, once again, wait until it comes out and we actually SEE it before we make judgments about it. Again, jmho.
