I saw the new concert film at a theater with social distancing where you had to preselect your seats. When I preordered about a week before, there were a few sections still open and when I actually showed up, it looked like all of the available seats were filled!
The theater audience seemed very engaged and entertained throughout, clapping, laughing and singing along to the hits. I was very impressed with the editing of the film. It really shows Stevie at her best, which I don't always see in her recent music releases. I brought someone who, at best, tolerates my Stevie/Fleetwood Mac obsession but when we left they confided in me that they really liked some of the songs they hadn't heard before and found her personality unexpectedly endearing. I may go again on Sunday. I think this film would be a great introduction to Stevie for anyone unfamiliar with her, in addition to us fans! For anyone who has seen the film, who was the person ("The favorite child... Max"?) that Stevie dedicated Landslide to? It went by so quick that I completely missed what she said.

Just saw the concert film in an AMC theater in central NJ. There was only about ten of us there, properly socially distanced, with reserve options that wound up blocking out two rows all around our single seat. Made for a less anxiety-inducing experience!
As for the film... I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Didn't get to see the tour so it was a nice treat. The editing was really fabulous: no fast cuts or out of the ordinary shots--though the drones and aerial views could be at times weird. Stevie was hysterical and witty, as expected, and it made the two-plus hours go by very fast! The "Gold and Braid" opening was fabulous; "Gold Dust Woman" was particularly captivating and indulgent; "Edge of Seventeen" seemed slower on the backbeat but vocals were great; "Moonlight" was beautiful and stripped down; "Starshine" was rockin' and great... I could go on. Loved it! P.S. did not know who the child Max was, whom "Landslide" was dedicated to. Also, was amazed during "if You Had My Love" that Waddy switched between guitars early on; I was unsure if the 12-string acoustic wound up being on a loop or if someone else wound up playing it, but couldn't tell, since he switched to electric. |

Oct 29 per this article from Deadline: EXCLUSIVE: Following its global cinema release last week, event music doc Stevie Nicks 24 Karat Gold The Concert is heading to premium VOD as distributor Trafalgar Releasing looks to employ new release strategies in the pandemic era. The film will be available to rent online from October 29 at 9am PT at a premium $19.99 price point until November 5 at 11.59 PT via the official website. Audiences will have 48 hours to watch after purchase. The move follows similar PVOD endeavors undertaken by studios during the pandemic such as Universal with Trolls World Tour. This marks the first such VOD release for event cinema specialist Trafalgar, which has to date relied heavily on theatrical in its business model. The company reduced its output while cinemas were disrupted by the pandemic and is now looking to take its ‘event’ style of releasing into the digital sphere, partnering with Nicks and her management company BMG on the release. Trafalgar’s primary focus still remains cinemas, Kymberli Frueh, Trafalgar’s SVP Programming & Content Acquisitions, emphasized to Deadline. “The central reason from Stevie Nicks and the team at BMG for providing a video-on-demand alternative for the 24 Karat Gold concert film was to create options for consumers, ensuring fans feel safe wherever they watch the film and to hedge against uncertainty around market closures and COVID spikes,” Frueh explained. “Whether it’s outdoor drive in locations, safely opened cinemas or online options, cinemas remain our main focus as they offer a safe communal experience among fans—especially since concerts and touring have stopped for now. Event cinema brings fans together in their local movie theater to enjoy their favorite artists as a community, as if they were at a live concert. “While the team liked the opportunity from the onset, it became increasingly important when some cinema chains closed all locations due to lack of new film releases. As COVID concerns continue to keep NY and LA closed, outdoor and online became even more critical as viewing options as these are core markets for fans,” she said. The film entered cinemas around the world on October 21 and reached number one in the UK and number two in the U.S.; it played in around 900 cinemas worldwide. Directed and produced by Joe Thomas during Nick’s 67-city sold out 24 Karat Gold Tour, the film explores the inspirations behind some of the musician’s most know songs from her times as a member of Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist. |

I saw these stats somewhere else that the film reached #1 & 2 in UK and US, which seems pretty amazing for a concert film of an aging rock star. I'm sure there's not a lot of competition, but still!
Also, does anyone thing the $20 price for VOD seems steep?? I mean, when this is available to purchase (which surely it will be) from Target or wherever, it surely wouldn't cost much more than $20, would it?? |

I wouldn’t pay $20 for the concert. The price will go down quickly and in a few months you will be able to buy it in iTunes for less than $10. |

I am just LOVING Crying in the Night. Wow. Makes me so sad to not get BN released and a tour. That and Without a Leg to Stand On would be so amazingly brilliant.

I love both of those songs. The originals of course. But a Deluxe B/N cd would make me so happy.

True!
I guess I'll add my 2 cents- I actually went and saw it in the theatre. We were VERY spread out, I would say maybe 20 people in the whole theatre, so it felt fairly safe. Seeing this combined with the "Show them the way" video has brought me a bit closer to my "old relationship" with Stevie since she fired Lindsey. I don't "love" her the way I once did, don't find her nearly as endearing, and am quite put off by how self-indulgent she's become (or maybe always was). Nonetheless, I've felt a bit more of that Stevie magic than I have felt in quite a while. Overall I really enjoyed the concert, a few thoughts -Her stories were mostly cute, if again sometimes a little too self-indulgent. -The new songs were great, and I was pleasantly surprised by the powerful and different take on GDW, especially the ending. -Seeing the blue shawl during Bella Donna- that's the moment that did me in. That's the Stevie I love. Why doesn't she wear many shawls any more??? I noticed no story about the shawl and her mom being shocked at how much it cost, but that it's held up beautifully and was actually a great purchase. I loved it when she showed it off, so I missed that. -Edge was def missing something with the bridge cut and not wearing any white. Would putting on a white cloak/shawl really be too difficult? It really does add something that is missing here. -It would have been nice if she tried to make this show a little special vs. the other ones- doing the longer Edge, wearing more shawls, doing the high notes in Gold and Braid, etc. But overall I must say it's a treat. I was glad to be reminded a bit of the Stevie I feel in love with. Hoping for the option to be able to purchase it soon! -Adam
