Cutting out songs from ‘Say You Will’

Many of the reviews I read back in 2003 about SYW was that at 18 songs, it was just too long. As much as I love new material from FM, I had to agree, it could have been a tighter album.

So if you had to make it a ‘standard’ 10 songs CD, what would you pick?

My choices:

1. What’s the World Coming To?
2. Illume
3. Thrown Down
4. Say You Will
5. Peacekeeper
6. Steal your Heart Away
7. Bleed to Love Her
8. Destiny Rules
9. Everybody Finds Out
10. Say Goodbye

Make it 12 and add Miranda and RTTG!!!

It's fun to try this. But my ultimate conclusion is: It can't be done; not with these songs. In fact, I think it's flaw is that it's still too short. Shoulda been a double album!

10 Songs isn't standard. I'm going with 13, what Fleetwood Mac had on Tango, BTM and Time.

I would've put Smile At You in for Silver Girl because I like the Say You Will version but it would be worth leaving it off if maybe Stevie would release it later a bit closer to its demo versions.

As a fan, I loved getting all 18 tracks & the additional bonus tracks on the special edition. However that aside, the CD was just too bloated and self indulgent for the casual fan & I agree with Stevie, The sequencing sucked!!

I'd say 'Goodbye Baby' to 'Goodbye Baby', 'Bleed To Love Her', 'Silver Girl' and dump the dumb 'Come'.
I truly loathed 'Goodbye Baby' being used on the SYW tour as an audience-manipulating encore, totally prostituting whatever merit the song has, but I do think the song should have been left between Stevie and her shrink, when she had one. Sorry to criticize Stevie. That song is just so exploitative, to me, I can't stand a song being made out of, nevermind, and then being droned as a lullabye goodbye to her unsuspecting fans on the tour, it's so sad to leave the stage.... Blecccch, Feh.
I did like 'Come' live, though, for the guitar solo (isn't the whole song a guitar solo? Just think the lyrics are trivial, so I'd leave it off the cd..
PS I'm sorry I didn't play by the rules and make it a 10 song cd.

The only song that needs to go is 'Running Through the Garden'. I can't get into it.

Can't do it. No way to get it down to 10 for me Silver Girl would have to go ( that's an easy one ), and then Goodbye Baby. I wouldn't miss Illume. I'd part with Come, except then there'd be no live version either ( duh ) and I couldn't let that happen
