Going to Germany!

Hey everyone!!
I am going to Germany in April for vacation...Staying in Berlin and also a town called Jena. Any places to really shop? Does anyone know? I can't wait!!

I went in November, to Berlin for about 5 nights. It's a wonderful town, but man I found the train/metro/streetcar/bus system complicated. And it all changes after 11pm too, different routes, schedules etc. That was my one complaint, otherwise it was lovely and just SO worth visiting.

I'm so jealous. I've never been out of the US and I'm dying to. well, not right now, but at some point.

I can't wait...it's my first time out of the country as well! Well except for Canada. I promise to take TONS of pictures. In Jena there are tons of castles!!!

I spent 3 weeks in Europe in November of 2002. One of the things in Germany I saw was the castle Neuschwanstein. Now that is something to see!! It's in southen bavaria near the Austrian border.

Have fun! Don't know about Berlin or Jena, but I've been to Hannover and that was cool...so long as you know how to ask for a loaf of bread in german (or a bottle of beer) you'll be fine.

LOL, and also if you can warble something to the effect of "Wo ist das WC?" ("where is the WC", though my grammar/case might be off) you're all set. 'WC' (pronounced vay-say in German) is the standard Euro term for the toilet. 'Water closet', get it?!

Funny how in the US, we say 'bathroom' as if we're going to take a bath there. If you went to someone's house here, and said "where's ya toilet?" you'd get a nervous uncomfortable chuckle from your hostess. "Oh, you mean the bathroom? Up the stairs to the right. Enjoy your bath.."

Neuschwanstein is A MUST, I went in 1992, it was a great time!! But yes it's far from Berlin. Hope you get enough time to visit.

If you like castles and medieval architectures, try to take a boat at the Rhin river, there are LOT of castles near it, you can see the castle where Richard Heart of Lion was prisioner several years

And, another MUST is Rothenburg ob der Tauber, it's the only town with the entire wall around it, from the middle age. when you enter Rothenburg is like you are traveling in time, incredible!!

If you are interested, look for it as Rothenburg ob der Tauber, yes with the entire name because there are like 16 Rothenburgs in Germany
