I really don't think Paul is underrated at all. If any Beatle was, it's George Harrison.

Here's my list of overrated:
U2
Sting
Dave Matthews Band
Shania Twain

We know who you're talking about if you mention her name, but most would only be able to name a song and tell you that she has a hell of a nose.

That Babs-shirt-wearing person at the FM concert in Sydney would appear to contraindicate your theory.

I'm going to have to say Billy Joel....not that I don't like him but I think he is indeed overrated.

You? Piss people off? NEVER

I'll agree on Sting for sure.

Rod Stewart is overrated as well and even though I like him, Josh Groban

Good thing I had my coffee already

I'm very surprised by some of the "over-rated" here....
Pink Floyd????
U-2???
Billy Joel???
Zeppelin???
Stones???

I know...I know...it's basically all opinion and everyone is entitled to one...no harm...no foul...

She isn't an artist we , in general would consider 'respectful'. Not to say that she's disrespectful, she's just no royalty, unlike your Elton John types. We go all out when they come down here, whether they're getting married for publicity or not.
However, her continued success in Australia would seem to contradict your theory, doll. If she were to pack her bags and start touring Australia tomorrow, she'd sell out every show.

So, apparently, she is still very popular down under

What I completely find unforgivable about Ol' Babs is the way she treats peole off stage. She makes the bellboys walk in backwards with her luggage because she doesn't want "their kind" to even look at her. (She did this at the MGM last time she was here) . The women is a complete NUTCASE. I wish all those "famous" people would remember that they are only where they are because of the fans. When they forget that and get arrogant, as many do, I lose all respect for them. I will never buy anything of Streisand's because of the way she acts. She will never get a penny out of me.

And don't even begin on Sting. I met him in person and his actions were beyond belief. What an arrogant, pathetic, little man.

Billy Joel was decent until Brinkley showed up. Then right down the tubes for me. .

I've gotten to where I really can't stand Billy Joel at all. I don't know if I'd consider him overrated, though...don't most people think of his music as being kind of schlocky?

I hate it when people compare him to Elton John. Elton is in a completely different league as far as I'm concerned (at least he was until about 1975).

That's fine, but that doesn't mean that "most would only be able to name a song and tell you that she has a hell of a nose" and that people don't respect her down there. Her Australian success obviously contradict that assessment. People must like her a helluva lot down there, they just aren't letting on. I guess you could say that in Australia it's unhip to be a Babs fan, just like it's unhip to be a Mac fan in the states.

His music is schlocky and his continuous whoring of "New York State of Mind" is pathetic. He's complete schlock, nothing else; he hasn't been good for years.

And he doesn't compare to Elton John at all. John blows him outta the water and into the nearest trashcan.

Not to mention the thousands who flocked to see her the last time she was there

BTW - when Americans say someone is "royalty" - they are speaking in hyperbole.

Not to mention the ticket prices on her last tour were several hundred dollars a ticket and they immediately sold out in all venues - hey Marvin Hamlish and a 20 peice orchestra ain't cheap

Seiously though, I think more than "most" would recognize the most successful female artist in the world and more than one of their songs Moreover, just because she may be uncool to some does not mean that she is not beloved by the majority and by people of all ages. Again, look at Stevie. She is 55, soon to be 56, and people of all ages attend her solo concerts and the FM concerts = and Stevie is only probably in the top ten or 20 most successful female artists. So, I have to concluded people all over the world of all ages still like La Streisand - not just people in a "
"sewing circle," although I am sure they do to
