I don't know what you personally consider topping the meat dress but she came in in an egg.

I just saw that on the BBC. God love her, she's as mad as a teapot. She keeps things interesting though

I'm not a fan of Lady Gaga, but I have to admit I do look forward to see what crazy thing she's wearing.

Janice would like to know why she wasn't invited to perform at the Grammy's with Cee Lo and Gwyneth.

Cee Lo Green performance kicked ass!
I wish people whose name is not Steve Perry would stop trying to sing Don't Stop Believin'.
And it was good to see Cyndi Lauper in the crowd!
Other than that, it has been pretty meh.

I AM SO HAPPY THAT ESPERANZA SPALDING WON BEST NEW ARTIST! And shocked.

She came and sang/played bass for our choir class last year. She wasn't even on a stage or anything, she was just in our choir room in a chair in front of our risers, talking to us and answering questions... and now here she is just a year later, performing at the Grammy's and winning Best New Artist.. beating JUSTIN BIEBER... whoa.

Portland's own! And a true native, too (most "Portland bands" relocated here from elsewhere). Very happy for her.

Honestly, I had never heard of her before tonight, but I checked her out and am impressed. Always amazed by people who can sing and play the bass well at the same time. Lord knows I try.

One of my friends was majorly upset that Florence + the Machine lost. Like full on rage.

Also enjoyed seeing the Avett Brothers get some exposure, they sounded great.

I know I must be getting old... but I just feel like the world has moved on in a direction that I am obviously not paying much attention to. First off- the obvious. What the hell happened to Bob Dylan? And what of his backing band of effusive, merry, bearded steampunk hipsters? Yeah, I've known about the whole neo-Victorian hipster thing from Williamsburg; it's been around for at least a few years now. But I had no idea it was so mainstream and that every up-and-coming "alternative" band was doing it. On the one hand I am glad that the music is coming from a more melodic, acoustic place. On the other hand, it already seems a bit formulaic and cliched. And Arcade Fire is nothing special. I mean, there are so many better "alternative" bands out there- they are just hype, hype, hype.

Other random thoughts... I'm afraid the world may have lost one of its great wonders- Barbra Streisand's voice. I'm tempted to think that she has allowed her voice to go to seed due to dis-use; I remember seeing an interview in which she admitted to never listening to music or singing around the house. You gotta use it or lost it! Mick Jagger sounded fantastic and, by golly, he hasn't lost a step, even if he looks creepier than ever... I love the fact that Train namechecked Howard Stern, who really was their biggest cheerleader when the rest of the world forgot about them... I can't stand the schmaltzy crap singles put out by Bruno Mars, but you can't deny that he is very, very talented. Jonelle Whats-her-face too. It just helps to underscore how absolutely worthless Bieber and Usher are by comparison.

In the world of corporate radio, yes, I'd agree.

Off the radio? 2010 was a great year for music!

Music these days is like...Taco Bell or Wendy's. No matter what you order, it's the same old **** rearranged to make something different. No matter where you go or who makes it, it all tastes the same. If you only eat fast food, eventually it will seem as though all food is garbage.

Then one day you find a restaurant that serves delicious hand-made food from local ingredients, with bright colors and interesting flavor combinations - and then you realize there is a whole world of interesting things to eat if you just look around for it.

Music is the same way.

Maybe I'm just comparing it to 2009, but last year I only bought 1 album. In 2009 however I bought tons and tons because everyone was making new music.

I saw her on Austin City Limits and enjoyed her tremendously . I'm curious to check out her album.

I only watched literally a couple of minutes of the Grammys. I was channel surfing and saw Norah Jones singing Dolly Parton's Jolene... and that made my night!

I just totally don't GET the Avett Bros. I've done monitors for them, three times, and while they're the nicest guys EVER, I just don't get the appeal. I remember the last show I did...I'm standing there, just trying to figure out why people are going crazy for them.

THANK YOU!!!

The Avett Bros are from the Charlotte, NC area where I lived for years... and thus people are completely NUTS about them there. I just don't get the phenomena behind them either.

After looking at my purchases, I realized I'm in the same boat. I bought almost twice as much in 2009 as I did in 2010!

2011 should be better, I think, at least based on announced releases.
