Default ABBA Voyage

It will be nice to see again this band, but I really don't expect that much. Agnetha is 71, Frida is 75, and pretty sure their voices won't be the same. I really hope they will do at least a fine performance, though I'm afraid the risk of a shame is there. They wait too long to reunite.

And the magic is not there anymore. It was a pop group and pop groups have a specific moment in time. But if the new work is a piece of adult contemporary music, it will be welcome.

Abba Voyage will be released in November, before a "revolutionary" set of concerts where virtual avatars will play hits like Mamma Mia and Waterloo.

This evening BBC Radio 2 played two songs from the album.

“Don’t shut me down” and “I still have faith in you”.
I thought the first was okay…but the second I really liked. Very much like an anthem.
the two female singers sounded really good.
Now on YouTube…

This is the news I've been waiting for for a *long* time!

ABBA were and are my first musical love. I've been a fan since I was 2 years old and they have soundtracked my life.

The video for "I Still Have Faith In You" makes me weep! Though it very much sounds like it could be taken from the "Chess" soundtrack. It has an element of musical theatre about it.

The second new song, "Don't Shut Me Down", is a more traditional sounding ABBA track. It sits nicely with songs like "If It Wasn't For The Nights" and "Dancing Queen", with a bit of "One of Us" and "Under Attack" thrown in for good measure. For the die-hards, I think it may be a sequel to "Just Like That".

The new album is out November 5th and the Voyage digital concert opens in May.

The video for "I Still Have Faith In You" can be found here:

And here is some information about the Avatar concert and it's development. Very interesting technology, if this works well, it could really be the way forward, especially for legacy acts. This way, ABBA concerts can continue for many many years, long after Agnetha, Benny, Bjorn & Frida have departed.

Both songs were recorded in 2018, or so I read. And they sound great!

On both songs, Benny and Bjorn avoid the pitfall of trying to recapture their youth. These are songs from their autumnal years - reminiscing about their lives, loves, triumphs and mistakes. The canvas is the same, but the colours are muted.

So will I be standing on a chair, singing these new songs when Abba launch their "virtual concerts" in London next year?

Well, why not? We'll find comfort together, the way old friends do.

My ABBA fandom predates my Fleetwood Mac fandom and that goes back to the late 1970s. I too cried like a baby when they premiered the video for I Still Have Faith in you when it got to the chorus and the inimitable combination of Frida's and Agnetha's voices. Both songs continue on with what ABBA was doing when they stopped recording without missing a beat. Incredibly the magic is still there after nearly 40 years of silence. That ABBA, one of the only remaining pop/rock international behemoths of the 1970s with all living members could release an album like this a full 40 years after their last album is incredible to me . It also underscores how incredibly lame it is that perhaps the only other pop/rock behemoth of that time where all the members of the classic lineup are still alive will never do the same.

Great! I saw them live on their brief North American tour in 1979..ninth row center and it was incredible but wouldn't mind seeing the ABBAtars as well.

I've heard about how the abbatars were made/filmed, but can anyone explain what exactly the abbatars would actually look like in person?

Actual 3D holograms?

Fake 3D holograms (behind a glass panel or something)?

2D images on a screen?

2D images on a screen made to appear 3D when the audience wears 3D glasses?

They're not holograms, this is new tech that hasn't ever been used before. No 3D glasses of trick screens. Benny's son, Ludvig, is producing and has said you will not be able to tell that it isn't ABBA as they were in 1979 stood on stage infront of you.

So what do Mac fans think?

I知 finding the album to be pretty, uplifting, and wacky in ways that indicate a liberated artistic perspective and shared love.

Keep an Eye on Dan has been running over and over in my head on a loop.

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

I really can't answer as just a Mac fan since I loved ABBA first but it is a very good album the usual couple of cheesy tracks keep it from being a complete masterpiece but then it wouldn't be ABBA without them. The real high for me is the double whammy of I Can be That Woman and Keep an Eye on Dan is stunning divorce pop really approaching the crowning glory of The Winner Takes It All as far as Agnetha's performance goes. She and Frida sound so great on here .What a generous goodbye gesture to their fans. I know we won't be getting any such thing from another seventies band with 2 ex couples that I could mention.
