I take it you don't like any of Stevie's scratchy or deep vocals.

Sleeping Angel has got to be one of her best vocals ever. And Lindsey had nothing to do with it. Jimmy I. probably didn't like it too much either since it was left off Bella Donna.

Somebody Stand By Me and Twister (with LB) are also great.

Sara is stupendous, as is Sisters of the Moon.

Thrown Down is noteworthy from her latest work, and so is Sorcerer from TISL.

IMO, some of her worst vocals are the SA title track and Thousand Days.

I've always thought that the studio version of Silver Springs was her best, especially the layers of vocals at the end. Many times the best vocals of her early tracks are layered at the fade of the song. There are several different versions of SS but the original 45 version is the I like the best. Followed closely behind are Storms, Angel (alternate take), and the demo of The Chain.

This is kind of weird for me to realize. My favorite studio vocal is It’s Only Love from whatever-it’s-from. Absolutely perfect vocal, for my money.

Her witchy wailing on Walter Egan's 'Tunnel of Love'!

The suggestive lyrics are a hoot!

Anytime you want me to do a little chore
Don't you know I'm waiting down at your back door
Indicate the feeling that you think is fine
And you know your wish would soon be mine

Tunnel of love, tunnel of love
Ooh, baby, take me for a ride
Tunnel of love, tunnel of love
Ooh, mama, take me inside

Ooh, you're such a comfort, ooh, you're such a thrill
Ooh, the way you hold me when you say you will
I'm like a volcano ready to erupt
Baby, when you treat me to your sweet, sweet stuff

Tunnel of love, tunnel of love
Ooh, baby, take me for a ride
Tunnel of love, tunnel of love
Ooh, mama, take me inside

Dancing down the street to the tune in my head
Thinking of the nights spent in your warm bed
I'm anticipating, watching time go by
It's so stimulating between your thighs…

Yes!! I love that one too. “Melted all the ice...”

Her early demos of “Leather & Lace” also jump to mind for me. So effortless and warm.

If I wanted to try to prove to a non-fan that Stevie at her prime was a terrific vocalist... I would start with:

Silver Springs,
Beautiful Child,
Edge of Seventeen,
Sable on Blonde.

These are fantastic picks, I would also add Won’t You Say You Will and Finally Found a Girlfriend with Walter Egan.

Just went back and listened to Midnight Wind. It's really a shame there aren't more studio recordings of her singing in the late 70s, her voice was just so so superb.

Walter Egan’s Not Shy and Fundamental Roll albums are amazing.
