Anyone notice...?
I mentioned this on the Ledge back in 1997, but has anyone noticed that Lindsey's "OH" in the line "Oh, to steal your heart away" sounds very similar to the "OH" or "Awwm" sound in "Dancin' Across the USA"?
We went dancin' (Awwm) across the USA (Awwm). Pretty cool, huh?! Chris |

I think the "Oh's" in DATUSA are a lil more deeper and strung out.

I hadn't noticed that before, Chris, but it is somewhat similar... good ears!
The way Lindsey sings a few of the words in "SYHA" has always kind of bugged me. Like the way he pronounces "go," "same," and the second time he says the word, "day." But the way he sings an exaggerated "SUFfahhh," instead of "suffer," is the biggie. It's just nit-picky stuff, and it's definitely not anything that detracts from my enjoyment of a terrific little tune... but, boy, do my ears ever catch those moments loud and clear, each time I listen to it!

There is a similarity.
I don't know if those sounds are all LB. I am pretty sure that various members of the Kingston Trio sing backup on DATUSA. At the time, LB had been working with John Stewart (formerly of the Trio) and LB also participated in their 1981 reunion, and the backing vocals sound very similar to those on the John Stewart/Nick Reynolds 1983 album, "revenge of the budgie"--which LB was heavily involved. |

Thanks
Thank you guys for the previous posts.
Hahhahahaa, yeah those are great little pronunciation oddities; signature Lindsey!! How about "suddenly we hit the grouhooound"?!!! Cute stuff. Oooooo, I want to get all those John Stewart albums to hear Lindsey's work and that of someone he admires. I wish I had a good copy of Dancin' Across the USA. All I have is what I recorded on cassette tape from my National Lampoon's Vacation VHS. Wish they would re-release that soundtrack on cd. Thanks!!!! Chris |

Here's a link to a website (found through Stewarts own site) that has several of those albums he did with LB.
http://www.hiddenhistory.com/page1/storhom2.htm? The first collaboration was Bombs Away Dream Babies in 1979. That album is still in print and you can get it anywhere. Other Stewart albums that LB (and others) contributed to are Blondes (1982), Revenge of the Budgie (1983), Last Campaign (1985). If you ever wondered what Lindsey Buckingham and Gary Busey sound like together, listen to Buddy won't you roll down the line. |

Thank you
Excellent!!! Thank you, Jeffles. I can't wait to hear some of their music together. It must have been special for Lindsey to play with someone he had admired growing up.
Thanks again, Chris |
