If the point of the thread was to get you to complain that a thread was pointless so that I could laugh out loud in sweet, delicious irony, then mission accomplished.

If you haven't noticed by now, a lot of threads around here are pointless.

That's actually a stereotype, but a lot of the times true. I suppose gay men like strong/successful yet sometimes "tragic" figures...IE. Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli....

While it's not true in every case, gay men... on some level or another... often identify with strong female celebrities who have faced and/or have overcome various adversities.

Plus, we relate to the struggles of those who have always been unfairly considered "the weaker sex," as they try to rise above that to make their own place in the world.

And when it comes to someone like Stevie, we can additionally relate to her lyrics of unrequited love and doomed romances... something that permeates the lives of most gay men from the time they're old enough to have their first same-gender crush.

I have wondered this many times. However, I am a homosexual man, and I do not like the femmy types. At all. I think they're annoying and ridiculous - and to be honest, I have always believed it was just an effected behavior, caused in part by environmental stimulation. Effected for so long that it becomes the norm, and thus, a huge turnoff.

Granted, all gay men have a slightly effeminate quality to them...which is part of the appeal as well. I don't know! It's hard to explain!

A female impersonator out of her costume can be an exceptionally masculine creature, indeed. Do not ever let the wig and dress fool you.

A Lot of my friends are effeminate, and I love them just the same. My BF happens to be a very masculine type, but in the end it doesn't matter, as I would love him even if he starting flailing his wrist around.

(I know plenty of heterosexual men who are married to women some might consider manly)

Socialization. I have seen guys move to LA and turn into queens before my eyes, because all their new friends act that way.

Not in my more recent experience. The further I have gotten away from the trendy young weho type crowd (which I never was really a part of anyway)and into just doing things I like, I find I have met a number of men who don't take part in "gay culture" at all. And they are just normal guys. Completely masculine. Being gay doesn't define them and they hardly give it a second thought. Works for me.

I have friends who are full on flamers, and friends who can not elicit a glance in small town truck stop. Takes all kinds.

I dunno...I act a little bit effeminate. Not overly so, but in some ways. It's just how I am though, I don't *try* to act like that or anything. My "boyfriend" acts similarly too.

My friend Nick is as effeminate as they come. Queeny with a capital Q. I love him to death, but I can't say that I would find it attractive in a partner or a phuck buddy. It would drive me nuts and probably make me flaccid.
