Default GoS Song Ranking

Michele,

I feel the same way. I wasn't crazy about the track "Gift of Screws" before it was officially released. On CD, however, it's one of my absolute favorites. I just love the energy of it, as well as the melodic *precision* of the yelps in the chorus.

"Deep Dense" was far and away my favorite of the original GoS lineup. Sadly, I lost that song when I changed computers. I'd be eternally grateful to anyone who might help me get "Deep Dense" again -- not the more primitive version that's easy to find, but the more fully produced version I once had. Here's hoping Lindsey eventually releases this beautiful track.

1. Right Place to Fade - always been one of my favs from Lindsey, let alone off the new album
2. Wait For You
3. Great Day - hated it the first listen, but then it grew immediately afterward
4. Gift of Screws - i loved it when i first heard it but...well, it's been years.
5. Love Runs Deeper
6. Underground
7. Treason
8. Did You Miss Me - it's just way too simple to me. ("Oh, this chord progression works, I'll just roll with that.")
9. Bel Air Rain
10. Time Precious Time - just can't get through it

Default iTunes UK iMix

Below is my iTunes UK iMix for the Say You Will, Under The Skin and Gift Of Screws original tracks that may have appeared on the 2001 release:

The original Gift Of Screws album that has been made up of the final released version of the songs. This is potentially the track list that may have been released in 2001, had it not been plundered for the Say You Will (2003) album, Under The Skin (2006) and Gift Of Screws (2008) which was released with additional new material.

The latter 3 songs are kind of a tie for me, in terms of dislike.
Finally, someone else who loves Bel Air Rain!! It is my fave off of GOS with TPT second. I guess I just like the beauty of just him and the acoustic rather than more rocky stuff...something just so magical about it.

I'll put my two cents in on my favs so far...

1. Great Day (WOW...what an opener!)
2. Right Place to Fade
3. Wait For You
4. Love Runs Deeper
5. Time Precious Time (this one is moving up the ranks for me, it was towards the bottom originally)
6. Bel Air Rain (Not sure why so many rank this low, I think it's wonderful)
7. Underground (this one & Treason will probably grow more on me)
8. Treason
9. Gift of Screws
10. Did You Miss Me (sorry to put this last, but it's a bit toooo perfect!)

It's really hard to rank an album that I love all the way through like this one. I have to say though, that I rank the original 17-song bootleg of GOS above both the new GOS and UTS. I like it so much b/c it has songs from both solo works and SYW, and the tracks that went to SYW were not tainted (imo) by Stevie's warbling in the background. But LB's new tracks are wonderful as well, maybe I will burn myself a 'Mega-GOS' that includes all the original tracks AND the new ones. I can't WAIT to hear some of this LIVE!!!

I'm with you on this. I went back and listened to the bootleg of this, and it sounds the same. At times you can hear "Twist of Fate" and others "Right Place to Fade". I think he changed only the title. Try this: if you convince yourself he's saying TOF, it sounds like THAT, and if you convince yourself he's saying RPTF, it sounds like that too! Brilliant LB!

Very little treason love over here.
My number one would be- Treason.
My number 10 would be DYMM as it is a little too much light-pop. The rest is a great album although it's hard to rate songs that you know for 7 years against new ones.

Okay, see I am already wanting to change a few things! I knew I should have waited to rank!

Finally Bel Air Rain is growing on me (with Time Precious Time being ranked the lowest for me). It took me forever to figure out it reminds me of parts of Red Rover. That was driving me crazy. I thought Right Place To Fade was my favorite of the bunch, but now I'm finding it hard to pick just one favorite. I agree with everyone else who says it sounds like LB is saying "twist of fate". If I hadn't had the boot of Gift Of Screws with the title of Twist Of Fate, I wonder if I would have thought he was saying Twist Of Fate, not having heard the song before.

Well, I am really having a blast listening to this. It did take a while for me to start appreciating it as an entire album and not just a few great songs here and there, some really good songs and some lesser liked songs I will probably not play very much. I really enjoy listening to all of it.

1. Right Place To Fade (good to hear LB rocking again)
2. Love Runs Deeper (I could go back and forth between the top two being my favorite on the album, but when the chorus kicks in on this song, it totally moves me)
3. Treason (this song is really growing on me. Gorgeous melody, possibly my favorite lyrically)
4. Did You Miss Me
5. Underground
6. Wait For You
7. Gift Of Screws
8. Great Day
9. Time Precious Time (the chorus is too repititious for me, but the guitar playing is stunning, and even more so if you can watch him play it live)
10. Bel Air Rain (this song has not clicked with me yet)
