I thought it was painful. Nearly unwatchable because it was such a mess.

The recent stage adaptation was quite good, even if it was silly to film it, but a movie? No thanks.

I remember watching Gone With the Wind in my high school English class one year, and I laughed when the girl fell off the horse. My teacher got mad and made me sit outside in the hall.
Ha Ha, I think this is probably a frequent occurance in class showings of that movie. My class watched that in eigth grade, and we thought it was hilarious too.

Anyways, I love GWTW. I have read the book twice, watched the film maybe ten times, and I have a book about the making of the film called "Scarlett, Rhett, and a Cast of Thousands."

Stage adaptation?? It was originally a Clare Booth play. It starred Marjorie Main & Ilka Chase (the lady who played Charlotte's sister in "Now Voyager") when it ran on Broadway.

Wasn't Ms. Rue in that production?

Yes. It came off pretty badly if you ask me because the performances were over the top theater performances. It looked silly on television, though I'm sure it was quite good live.

Really ? there was talk of a remake in the mid 1990's with Meg Ryan.Julia Roberts and inexplicably my beloved Jodie attached.Thankfully it never went into production as I hope this one doesn't.The 1939 version cannot be topped.

Lemme guess....

Julia Roberts is taking over from Joan Crawford as Crystal Allen.
Cameron Diaz is taking over from Norma Shearer as Mrs. Stephen Haines.
Jennifer Aniston is taking over from Rosalind Russell as Mrs. Howard Fowler.
Sandra Bullock is taking over from Paulette Goddard as Miriam Aarons.

and

Dakota Fanning is playing (puke) Little Mary Haines.

Introducing Star Jones in the role of the Countess DeLave taking over from Mary Boland. "Ah, l'amour, l'amour..."

No, Dakota Fanning will be too busy starring in remake number two of "Lolita."

I just googled it and Meg Ryan and Sandra Bullock are the ones attached to it.I guess Meg can't give up the idea of tampering with a classic. With her new cheek implants and trout lips maybe a Fish Called Wanda would be a more appropriate remake for her .

Hands down, Gone With the Wind, my favorite movie of all time. Clark Gable is yummy!

GWTW, it just changed my life in so many ways when I saw that. I never knew romance could be that vast and that dramatic and beautiful. I was like 12 and it blew me away.

LOVE it.

Casablanca...it's a beautiful film but it just hasn't the punch that GWTW has!
