Default Why is Lindsey on Behind the Mask and Time?

Howdy! It's great to be back. I haven't posted in awhile on here with school and work and all that jazz. But, I've had a question burning inside of me for the past five minutes, and I need my fellow Ledgies opinions. What's the reason Lindsey's on the title track of Behind the Mask and Nothing Without You from Time? Was he required to at least appear in one way or another or did the band just have a decent working relationship back then that didn't allow them to permanently cut each other off? This is a question I've been pondering, especially considering recent events.

I have always assumed its that they established a good working relationship, considering Mick and John were on Gift of Screws too.

I’m not quite sure about the Time track but I always thought he already had laid his guitar on the Behind the Mask song and that’s why he was credited because the Mac worked with a pre recorded song prior to Lindsey’s departure.

I know that even though the events after Tango were ugly, he must have had a decent relationship with the band when they were touring Behind the Mask as he appeared onstage during Landslide at one (or more) show(s).

so he must've had a good enough working relationship to be on that title track and when Time was being recorded was just after the inauguration for Clinton with Don't Stop. The band kind of reminds me of the Beach Boys later on their careers in that, they could regroup after years for weird one-offs and then just simply say "see ya", "see ya" and hope on their respective planes and not see or talk to each other for years more.

I think simply because he was asked for by the band ...

Yes their relationship was not torn. Lindsey attended Mick's wedding along with the band in 1988. If my memory is correct, Christine asked Lindsey to play guitar on Behind the Mask. She probably wanted that "Mac sound" for the opening song.

Lindsey also performed with the band on stage at their final gig during the Farewell Tour.

I was not aware that Lindsey had anything to do with Time.

He sang backing vocals on “Nothing Without You.”

Ha ha. Clearly I did not read the liner notes that carefully or did not care at the time.

A very interesting choice when you think about the lyrics to the song.

"Don't you come to close to me, you're dangerous"
"There'll never be a second chance for you"
"I recognize the shadows from the past"
"I don't know if I want you back"

Some passive aggression from Christine towards Lindsey?

And ironically, Behind The Mask is the only track on the album that has held up well over the years. It's always been the best song on the album, and most likely due to Lindsey's involvement during the sessions.

The rest of the album is mediocre at best.

I don't think by the entire band. I guess he was asked by just one or two members.
