Stevie Nicks albums are all about over-the-top production, so I can see why some people would feel something is missing from this "less-is-more" version. I miss Macy Gray, but I still prefer the alternate.
Even the stellar and lambent Bella Donna - in fact she hired Jimmy I. specifically for that HUGE "Because the Night" (LOVE THAT SONG BTW - esp. the 10,000 Maniacs cover ) - because Jimmy I. produced that.

All in All - I think TISL was stellar though and was so happy to hear it!!!!!!!
Recording songs the way you like them doesn't make them good.

I like TISL a lot, I think it was a great comeback vehicle for her solo career. As with every album, there are things that drive me nuts because of their sheer mediocrity, but I think her material was strong enough to make the record rather resillient in that respect. The title track still astounds me with every listen, it's perfection.

However, I hope that on the next record they don't screw with her vocals so much. The metallic feel to them on TISL is a very acquired taste.

Like I said, I have no problem with that because you aren't required to share anything. No one is, really. But the difference is that you don't brag about the rare **** you have and then say there's no way that you're letting any of it leave your possession. That kind of behavior, my friend, is utterly classless.

Oh I agree - I was saying they are the way she wanted them - I think her vocals could have been better - but I always say that about everyone including people like Deborah Voigt, Patti Lupone, Christine M, - all of which I really consider close to perfection - at least to me

But, yea, that voice tinkering is akin to nails on a chalkboard at times - AND - LB's (presumably LB ) use of that radio sound on EFO and Illume - I guess I think gimmicks are beneath them and ESP. him because he is brilliant and so innately innovative without that.

I remember when she posted the snippet. I respect her decision to keep her stuff to herself. But, although I was happy to hear it, the teaser was IMO uncalled for - I mean we pretty much ALL share freely around here. But, it was her's and it was her decision. Thankfully, others chose to share. I mean look at Brian J. - who is VERY generous with his stuff as is Tiff, Nancy, and many many others ( {{{HUGS}}} to them!!!!!!

I guess different strokes for different folks

Voice tinkering, that's exactly what it is. It's as if they homogenized her voice so much that it's a chore to find any warmth to it on that album, save maybe It's Only Love. I don't know how to describe it, but metallic is a pretty good word for it.

Oy, that radio effect drives me nucking futs. There's NO point to them and makes it look like they're using them just to use them.

Posting that clip was her way of teasing us, plain and simple. We simply weren't good enough or worthy enough to hear it. The same thing happened with the ACLU version of Peacekeeper. What a fiasco that was.

What added insult to injury was when the friend of the chick who won the auction came on here and bragged about being able to hear it. I wanted to jump into cyberspace and throttle the little bastard. There's nothing worse than a braggart. We're all guilty of it at times, but some people just don't know the definition of class...or even sharing. I would have hated to be the tyke sharing the sandbox with him as a child.
