"The Derelict"
One of the greatest Fleetwood Mac songs of all time ... it's as fresh today as the day it was released. It may seem even fresher. A great deal in the song's references that was conventional & almost banal in Watergate era 1973 is so far in the past as to have been forgotten & become new. The Pop characterizations seem modern, & rather better than they did at the time. New Mac audiences may enjoy Dave Walker's theatrical flamboyance even more than earlier generations did, because they're so unfamiliar with the traditions it came out of.
(G) Oh I slept in a (D) derelict And I (C) ate off the (G) floor I was wrapped in a (D) blanket As a (C) knock came on the (G) door You can (Em) get out of (Am7) here Said a (C) man in a (Cm) raincoat So I (G) moved in with (D) you and you (C) loved me (G) Took a trip down the highway And I spoke with my folks It's a serious business And there's no time for jokes You can get out of here Said a middle aged lady So I moved in with you, and you loved me Yes you loved, you loved me There was so much at stake Too much confusion I'd had all I could take No more get out of heres From a man in a raincoat Cause I moved in with you, and you loved me |

I've loved this song since I first heard it in 1979.
