Default Stevie (& others) Boycott SiriusXM Over Music Modernization Act

Kim Gordon, Stevie Nicks, Paul McCartney, More Boycott SiriusXM Over Music Modernization Act

The satellite radio company was the only entity to oppose bill protecting artists in the digital age

A group of about 150 artists and executives have signed a new open letter addressed to SiriusXM’s corporate parent, Liberty Media, declaring their intentions to boycott the satellite radio company in support of the Music Modernization Act (MMA). The MMA is a legislative push towards modernizing copyright protection for songwriters and artists in the digital and streaming age. SiriusXM have suggested three amendments to the bill, making them the last opposition to its passing in its current form. Kim Gordon, Stevie Nicks, Paul McCartney, Karen O, Mick Fleetwood, Katy Perry, Sia, The Pixies’ Joey Santiago, Alessia Cara, Charlie Puth, and many others are boycotting SiriusXM. Read the full letter, penned by songwriter Ross Golan, via Variety.

SiriusXM argues that the bill favors “broadcasters over satellite radio and streaming services” and suggests amendments to the bill, which they say would benefit artists. Read the response at Variety. Earlier this year, the MMA bill was passed unanimously in the Senate Judiciary Committee and House of Representatives.
