i don't think i ever heard it was that many. he may have, but that was not the number floated around. i do think this song is a leftover from 2012 sessions, so EP / BuckVie era, but i think he re-recorded vocals and put in new lyrics that can easily be interpreted as covering the firing situation:

1st verse - i didn't see it coming
2nd verse - beautiful sister lied, and band / management / promoters voted for a compromise
3rd verse - i tried to fight it but in the end had to give up

more/less.

I agree I don’t think we have the 2012 rough here. We have a reworked 2018 version. Even if he had 20ish songs then, they may not have all been ready for the fair.

hmmm.... I dunno.... the songs for the movie were about a dysfunctional relationship between a man and a woman, so the lyrics may be coincidental....but who know

right right This is 40 songs like Brother and Sister which this very much hearkens back to, musically.

i've heard many different interpretations already, and it can be what i wrote above, or something completely unrelated. that's the beauty of it - rorschach, as LB would say.

Also forgot to add “Poor Little Raven” to the songs from that era.

about which LB song this one reminds you off -

i finally listened to Hunger last night with good speakers, and it struck me: people were talking about the start sounding like Sad Angel, and the structure somewhat reminding them of This is 40 Brother and Sister, or some UTS songs like Show You How. but you know what? after listening to it, the way he pronounces / signs lyrics in verses and the beat underneath, i think -

this song is One Take lite!

hmmm.....not sure I hear that. I had to go back and listen to One Take as it is so not one of my faves.

I think even more it comes from the outtakes/leftovers from This is 40. There's a song on that he did called "Brother and Sister" and it ties thematically to the line about "sister" in Hunger. And musically to me at least they all sound of a piece.

I really, really hope he does write some new material that addresses current events at some point.
