Question 1967

Is there more information about the National Blues & Jazz Festival at Windsor, August 13, 1967... like who was on the bill besides Chicken Shack and Fleetwood Mac (hold the Mac)???

Also, did FM or Peter Green ever play The Marquee in the '60s to early '70s? I have never heard or read of it if they did. I think I remember that The Bluesbreakers did. I definitely know The Syn and Alexis Korner did many times, and Pink Floyd a few times.

Check this out:

From the top of my head, they played "Fleetwood mac", an early version of "I loved another woman" and the usual Jeremy numbers. There's a tape of one of their 2 performances, which is great.

F Mac played the Marquee the week after this, can't remember the exact date. August anyway..

Thanks! Oh whee, Mick with a perm! What a great festival, Tomorrow, Pentangle, Small faces, The Nice, Denny Laine... Wow.

I also found this in the Blue Letter archive from 1977 with Christine reminiscing about the 'old days'. "At the Marquee one night he put a dildo in his trousers, came out and did an impersonation of Cliff Richard. Half the women left, escorted out by their boyfriends."

Thanks for the link to that website. I'd never seen it before.

I wouldve loved to have been there. Too bad it was 4 years before I was born.

I found the following (but not the festival info even with Tomorrow on the bill) in Jerry Lucky's The Psychedelic Rock Files...

August 14th, 1967

- The British government enacts legislation that effectively closes down pirate radio stations broadcasting underground music to Britain's youth. Perhaps tyhe only station still in operation, Radio Caroline, closes down for good.

- Scott McKenzie's summer of love anthem 'San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)' is the no.1 song in the U.K.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the beginning of the end!
