Default Madison Blues

I happened upon this set the other day and grabbed it. I'd only seen it in a store once before and hadn't bought it for whatever reason, but this a really great set!

The Christine Perfect Band songs are... well, not all that much to write home about, but interesting to hear nonetheless. The rest, though, all the live Kiln House-era stuff, there are some really smoking performances here, especially the seven-minute "Purple Dancer" I'm listening to right now.

It's a shame this incarnation of the band didn't last longer - it's great to hear Christine really blues-rocking out with the band at the very beginning of her tenure.

Haven't watched the Jeremy interview disc yet, but looking forward to it.

Anyone else have this set? Thoughts?

(I'm also really please with the 17 Euro price tag Now that's a deal.)

Yeah, I think this is a great disc insofar as it presents almost entirely unavailable material. All versions of station man (especially the third one) are outstanding, as are jeremy's rockers in the second concert set. Chris has some problems vocally in the live numbers (which was discussed on this board before) but she has no problem with the OUTSTANDING live-in-studio version of "Crazy 'Bout You Baby," which -- I feel -- should have appeared on a Mac record somewhere.

Danny comes off really well here. His playing and singing are strong and the numbers he performs (especially "Tell Me") are fittingly UP.

Other musing: I would love to have heard a studio version of the live arrangement for "I'm on MY Way," which has sass, soul, and a real kinetic pop energy--somewhere between Dusty and Aretha, but sexier than either of them, and driven by an infectiious groove.

Hey Jyqm,

I just happened on this fine box set at Tower Records for $21.00. What a find! It's great.

Love the live tracks from Kilm House. Amazing. Purple Dancer (Live) and studio track are great to have. I actually enjoy the Christine Perfect Band tracks. Station Man is fantastic.

I have yet to watch the DVD of the Jeremy Spencer interview myself. That's quite an interview clocking in at 96mins.

The packaging is quite decent too.

The interview, although interesting, is really painful to sit through. I found myself really getting fidgety while watching it.

It obviously wasn't rehearsed OR EDITED! There's lots of "dead air" (that SHOULD've been snipped) as Jeremy thinks about his answers...and then once he answers, Celmins thinks he's going to say more on the subject, but doesn't and there's spots where there's just real uncomfortable pauses. Just like the way Celmins writes, he asks similar questions that Jeremy's already answered...which annoyed ME, so I can imagine how annoyed Jeremy must've gotten.
