kind of off topic but...
I'm going to say something that I have been rolling around in my head for months. To me, it sounds like she is using auto-tune for her voice on some of those tracks on that CD. Does anyone else hear it? It is extremely noticeable on So Sincere: "oh didn't you like my love song darling" that darling part reminded me of Cher on Believe. She sounded like she was using it on some of The Dance tracks too.

I don't know how everyone on here feels about an artist using auto-tune.
maybe there was already a thread talking about this so I'll shut up for now.
but it has bothered me for a while.

I think everybody's vocals were 'tidied up' on The Dance.

However, on ITM all I hear is raw vocal.

Not according to her nephew, Dan (mind you he would say that wouldn't he?)

He said they didn't have to do any "mucking about"

She herself said she had to "sing and re-sing the songs" in order to sing them accurately.

I would say not but who knows?

go to iTunes.
Listen to the snippet of "So Sincere"
the "dahhling" part is at about 5-6secs in.

I love Christine to death, but I can't say I believe that is raw vocal talent.
It just doesn't sound natural JMO

I also don't like they way she says "rising sun" something about that gives me the willies. but I think a back-up singer is singing along with her, so I'll blame them too lolol

but I still LOVE the CD and listen to it all the time.
I'm not hating on Christine...just curious if anyone heard what I heard.

Absolutely cannot hear what you're referring to.

Christine's contralto range has always sounded a little 'different' -- maybe it's just the way she holds a note nowadays that sounds weird to you? I just don't think it's vocal distortion, especially not after she and Dan banged on about how little they had to tweak things when they made the album.

It used by most every artist out there now... It sounds so stale to me... the equilevent of being completely on the beat with out any swing or slight tempo changes....

it's just the industry thing to do... I miss the days where life was more raw...

I really don't hear what you're saying. Her voice is pretty much naked on ITM in all its imperfect glory. As was already mentioned, she holds her notes differently now, and there are these interesting little curls and bends that weren't there before.

If you're getting ITM via iTunes or other download you're getting a digitally compressed mp3 or similar file, so maybe that is why it sounds at all like Cher's later stuff. If you have the proper CD release it doesn't sound like that.

yeah, you're probably right...It was just strange to hear her sound like that, and I didn't know compression could do that. She sounds good though, just different.

I agree she sounds different...

Her lower voice really sounded great to me... it was a nice surprise...

She used something for sure on The Dance. All of the songs were corrected, but I notice it the most during Christine's songs, especially the chorus in Everywhere. (The word 'everywhere' is a bit Cher-bot sounding)

Hey everyone reading this thread...check out Ken's latest comment on working with Christine for ITM. It's revealing--and pretty sad.
