Accordingly, I guess one could conclude that I think Bill Murray is the most over-hyped, overrated actor in history. He (along with the Wilson brothers) plays the same deadpan, snarky, sarcastic, jaded character in EVERY movie. Make him stop!
I liked Royal Tenenbaums...Its funny in a sick sort of way. Life Aquatic, I thought was really funny...better than Tenenbaums. The whole "rescue" scene is amazing.

I like Bill Murray and his deadpan sort of thing...that's what he does well. He really plays himself in a lot of movies, from what I've read and heard about him. He is, in my opinion, not a great actor. He's just found a niche that people accept. I do think he's great in "Groundhog Day" and "GhostBusters" of course!

Forest. Gump.

Most crap-ass movie I've ever seen.

Don't care how kick ass the soundtrack is, the movie itself is crap.

Life is like a box of chocolates- my butt!!

oh, and SortaSavageLike...
I agree about Titanic, It's wayyy too over-rated, and Leo Dicaprio sucks too. [no offense to anyone who likes him, but I really don't see what's so great about him...]

I also hate basically all the Dinsey movies except:
Anything and Everything Lion King
The Aristocats
Sleeping Beauty
The Fox and the Hound [but its sad :'(]
and Bambi

Those 'Princess' movies with the exception of SB are horrible!!! [Yeah I hated them when I was 5-10 too!!]

It's a great movie, though. The accents are annoying, but funny. Oh yah.

I don't care for Forrest Gump either. The last thing I liked Tom Hanks in was BIG.

I don't particularly like many Disney films...Aladdin has always been my favorite.

Titanic...def overrated. Also, most movies by Michael Bay suck. And the ones where Jerry Bruckheimer is involved too.

Someone said they hated "The Matrix" movies. 1st one was good...the other two that followed...man, they really dropped the ball on that whole story.

I'm glad no one has said FASTER, PUSSYCAT, KILL KILL!!

In fact, I see no Russ Meyer film on anyone's list.

I thought "Rushmore" was okay... but definitely overrated for what it was. I think it's great for a director to have a distinct signature style- like Alan Parker, Oliver Stone, Quentin Tarantino, Greenaway, Bergman, Russ Meyer, etc. In fact, I would imagine it would be quite an honor for a director if someone said that this movie looked very ____-ian. I like Wes Anderson's visual style, but I just cannot stand the complete lack of substance.

Regarding the Aviator, I think it has its moments, but I found Cate Blanchett's parody of Kate Hepburn to be hilarious- almost as good (in an awful way) as Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford. I can't believe she won the Oscar for that!

And I totally agree with you on "Juno!" It was basically Ellen Page playing a knocked up version of the girl she played in "Hard Candy."

Of course not, because that would require something called "talent."

Quote:

Most films give you that or want to give you that but he seems to be aiming to give a different experience. Also they don't follow that build up and pay off thing that people have become accustomed to in movies and I guess if you want the regular format, three stage thing then don't see his films.
The only payoff that I get at the end of his films is a newfound appreciation for time, as in, why did I spend two hours of my life sitting through this garbage?

Quote:
I also don't think any of his films have been "hugely popular" and after Rushmore they've only been esteemed by half the audience/critics, I would say. I wouldn't say you're in a small minority.
They haven't been commercial hits, but they certainly have garnered critical acclaim. I swear, the pages of the Village Voice were sticky when their review of "The Royal Tenenbaums" was published.

That was what I was saying, his films aren't for people who want the standard set-up and payoff format in a 3 stage format.
