All-era compilation playlists
I just wondered if any other fellow-ledgies had played around with making all-era compilation playlists. Rather than doing it chronologically, which has its own challenges and limitations, I try to put together songs that flow into each other well, or that have some common thematic, musical or lyrical link allowing for the occasional left-turn. Parts of this list work better than others, but what do you think? I set myself some basic rules.. include every studio album, have it less than four hours long, and try to avoid consecutive songs by the same writer. I play it with 8 seconds of cross-fade to make it flow. And yes, I realise that post-Tusk material is a little under-represented...

I love this idea and toyed with it myself but stopped because not all the albums are remastered. Great idea to add another section to include more Tango, SYW, etc.

Hi Sean,
Thanks for replying. The thing about trying an exercise like this is that it confirms that Christine truly was the heart and soul of this band. I know its a ten thousand-to-one shot that you're reading this Chris, but thanks... |

Hi ChiliD... there's no significance...I just did it that way to make it easier to read and avoid doing a long vertical list taking up lots of space!
Kind Regards Mr Scarrott |

Alphabetically
About 10 years ago, I started to record all the (official) songs alphabetically on minidiscs, from A fool no more to You're the one.
But with a total number of about 368 officially released titles, that project turned out a bit too big; I stopped at the third disc... GJK |

Ok, here's mine (in the long, vertical, acreage-consuming format)
3hrs, 43mins, 13 secs From Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac (1967) to Extended Play (2013) Coming Your Way This Is The Rock Black Magic Woman Station Man Shake Your Moneymaker Love That Burns Dragonfly Underway Hypnotized Morning Rain Revelation Sands Of Time Winds Of Change Steal Your Heart Away For Your Love Sunny Side Of Heaven Sisters Of The Moon Green Manalishi Brown Eyes Thrown Down Big Love Smile At You In The Back Of My Mind Love Shines Got No Home Sad Angel When The Sun Goes Down I Know I'm Not Wrong Miles Away Woman Of 1000 Years Rhiannon Bermuda Triangle Isn't It Midnight Murrow Turning Over In His Grave World's In A Tangle The World Keeps On Turning Tell Me All The Things You Do Gypsy Night Watch Tusk Bad Loser These Strange Times Future Games Oh Well Caught In The Rain Show-biz Blues Why The Chain All Over Again Albatross Limited it to 50 songs. Quite a few of my faves left out. But, was still able to keep it under 4 hrs. (so no 20+ min versions of "Rattlesnake Shake" & which means the severely shortened "Underway" WAS. )

Thanks ChiliD, I'll enjoy listening to this- very counter-intuitive (although not for you, I'm sure...). I can just imagine the rolling eyes if this was put forward to some record execs as a playlist for "An introduction to Fleetwood Mac" compilation product. I would also quite enjoy playing this to friends who only remember them singing Little Lies in a barn.
I haven't got "Got no home" though, which I'll have to find. Are we allowed unofficial releases? Oh, why not... And you remembered the Blues Jam in Chicago album, which I always seem to forget. You've made my playlist look really quite straight and conservative, which is great! |

My list easily burns to 3 discs...the only problem is exactly where to do the cut-off of each disc. Disc 1, could stop at "Sunny Side Of Heaven" or lengthened to end with "Green Manalishi". Then it kind of throws off the other two discs' running order.

Well, cheers to ChiliD. I've just spent a very enjoyable 3 3/4 hours listening to his playlist (barring the yet-to-be found Got no home). When you get over the audacity of only including five songs from those three albums and democratising the amount of tracks given to individual members then the entire body of work does make some more kind of mysterious sense- even Sands of Time segueing into Winds of Change (and I was a little sceptical about that, truth be told).
Chiffonheads of the world could do no worse than the lady herself.. get all the pre-Year Zero albums and listen to them back-to-front or whatever and then see what you come up with. I may die before I hear her a mash-up of Sisters of the two-pronged crown but I live in hope. I am yours, just a dream And go on dreaming May this joy of ours Never ever cease My love, my love Pregnant sweet Love is tender Mr Scarrott Last edited by Mr Scarrott; 05-29-2013 at 06:12 PM.. |

Thank you for taking the time to listen through that playlist.
Upon listening back to it myself, I think it would've been better to flip-flop this pair: "Smile At You" & "In The Back Of My Mind" And, move "These Strange Times" to AFTER "Oh Well" And, while we're at it, squeeze in "You Make Loving Fun" in between "Steal Your Heart Away" & "For Your Love". It was just an inadvertant oversight not including YMLF initially (despite it being from THAT album ) Also, I WANTED to include "Go Your Own Way", but just couldn't find a place for it that made sense. That would've pushed it to almost the 4 hr mark.

You could just lull everyone into a false sense of familiarity by starting with GYOW before exploring those seven mid-period tunes before the Rumours crowd return...you would then also have the joke of not knowing whether you were coming or going your (own) way...
A bit cheesy? Perhaps... but it's the sort of thing I would end up doing! Coming your way is such a strong opener in its own right that it might be a shame to relegate it, but GYOW doesn't really work following it, somehow and it doesn't really elide into This is the Rock either... |

As previously stated...move "These Strange Times" to after "Oh Well". Put "Go Your Own Way" where it was between "Bad Loser" & "Future Games". Ta-DAAAA!!
