I was one of the few people who dissented from the Toad and his cronies over on Mick's board, so I thought this was an apt username. I still have fond memories from that police state, too. I was banned for writing a dirty limmerick about Toad and gldstwmn was banned for typing "Dick Van Dyke."

Well, here is the breakdown:

1) Mac is for Fleetwood Mac

2)Mar is the first three letters of my last name

3) 71 is the year I was born


and this has stuck with me ever since I got on line in 1999, I had to come up with a user name for Webtv and I tried several things which were of course taken and this one came to me in a urgent moment almost out of thin air.

I discovered the ledge in '97, it was the first message board I posted on. Needed something simple. It's short for my real name: Marieke. I thought that name would be too difficult for non-Dutch people
I use the name everywhere on the internet now, sometimes I add my birthyear, if the name's already taken. People even call me Mari now, because Marieke is a very common name in the Netherlands, and this distinguishes me from my namesakes

Merf is a nickname for Meredith, given to me by one of my residents during my senior year (I was an RA my last year in college). She also called me "Merfie."

This weekend in Atlanta several people called me Merf the entire time
