I don't have the lyrics in front of me, but isn't it "Thought that our harmony was the new harmony...Lord, it was a little too strange...?"
I didn't really get that until I heard it live. He articulates much better live than the distorted jumble on the album version!

thought that our harmony
was the new harmony
lord it was a little too strange
and the band played on

I didn't realize he was saying "and the band played on" until I read the lyrics recently, all this time I thought it was just mumbling!

I know! I thought it was "yeah, yeah, owwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhh", and I kept forgetting to look in the booklet. But when I saw him do it live last year, I realized he was actually saying something...and smiled when I saw what it indeed is.

Seriously - that part is totally incoherent. Trying to figure that out pre-lyric sheet was an impossible task, as Stevie would say!

Actually if you watch the live in Boston DVD, or if you have seen them in concert Lindsey is clearly saying..."Thought that our harmony, was the new harmony, No it was a little too strange...in the bed...."

He's not saying "and the band played on"...he was saying "in the bed" at both shows I saw them. And it makes more sense, especially with the sexual connotation of the song.

Sorry...I was so close to him at the show the other night I could see his nose hairs, and he indeed sings "and the band played on" live. The timing of the words is interesting, and the "on" can just seem like an "oh" or "awwww" if you don't know. (ie, "in the bed, oh/aw".)

Well whatever. I dont hear it. I think "in the bed" goes with the song better so I'll just keep singing that.
