Are the Midnight Special DVDs worth them? In terms of the Mac performances, of course, but also the whole shows

Default Buy The Midnigh Special

yes! I own all 20 something midnight Special discs and they are DEFINITELY worth it. where to begin... the sound and picture quality are amazing. of course you get some nice FM footage in there (Rhiannon and Over My Head).. but the songs, the bands, and the performances are amazing. nothing we have today would compare. Everything is LIVE: the horns, the percussion, the background singers... and when a performer wants to dance, they have to keep the singing going. there are MANY a coked up crazy performance too... and it is FUN to watch. The costumes/clothes are superb.. but also the honesty in the perfomances are beautiful. You can watch a Gladys Knight song or Charlie Daniels Band, or Leo Sayer, or anyone else from that time and just beam with joy as you watch these folks perform a one-time live song. Its a great peice of R&R history. Grandted, the discs contain only portions of each season so you'll only get a couple FM songs (not all 4 that were performed that night) and only a couple from Heart, the Cars and so on... but it was still worth it.

i will say the later years (79-81) get more dissapointing... since they become VERY solid gold/American Bandstand-like: aka: lip synching. But this only happens a few times in 79 (although the 80s discs are about half and half)

otherwise, it's one of the BEST things I own.. and a great fun thing to pull out and view when guests are over too.

If you are younger too, you will get a great look into (and history of) the 70s music scene, and get to see the progression of easy listening, Funk, Disco, punk, etc... into the music scene.

Any of the released Midnight Special DVDs show either song ("Believe Me" or "Miles Away") from Fleetwood Mac's 1973 appearance?

I agree totally!! The thing that I also like is there is a big mix of different types of music back to back. I don't have all of them but the ones I have are great and major flashback. I not sure about the ones with the older FM songs though.

no.... unfortunately FMs 1973 appearance is not on the DVDs. The selection of songs and artist on each DVD seems to be songs that were popular, famous, or on the charts at the time... Lesser known acts and major artist's lesser known songs arent really on the DVDs (even if they were performed that season)

That's good to know. Wonder if they'll put these out on Blu ray?

I agree with all you have to say. I also have the entire collection of DVDs (not DVD's)

This is from an article about the Midnight Special that was on the San Francisco Guardian Bay website:

http://www.sfbg.com/noise/2010/06/16...t-special-love

Fleetwood Mac, “Over My Head”
SFBG It's always good to cast a vote for Ms. McVie. I like the effect of her face projected within the moon.

NL I always like to stick up for Ms. McVie. I feel like her songs don't get enough credit from some people. The backdrop is my favorite part of this performance, edging out Lindsay Buckingham's kimono.
