Very different running orders
Does anyone else find it odd that the 2 different versions of 24KG have completely different running orders aside from just 2 extra songs. Maybe it's a marketing scheme to sell more albums and if it is, then it's working, at least on me. If I don't think watch devil is at least a 7 out of 10, I may prefer listening to the 14 track version. At first glance it seems to flow better. Of course that's complete speculation and I may be very wrong, especially not knowing what 75 percent of the album will sound like. but if I'm right, the deluxe version seems to be ending on a somewhat dull note. Maybe not dull, but slow. Blue water, cathouse blues, the very good but middle of the road single the dealer and then she loves him still which unless it improves greatly I find very dull.
I just find it very odd it's not 2 identical running orders with the 2 bonus tracks being the only variables.

My guess about the sequencing on the Deluxe Edition versus the regular version is because they decided to put it on Double Vinyl. They might have decided to sequence the Deluxe version in a way that best suits the sound quality on vinyl. So they chose to break it up into 4 sets of 4 tracks with the least amount of "running time". The less time there is on one side of a vinyl record (preferably under 25 mins) makes it sound so much better!
Just my opinion, though. Last edited by sorcerer999; 08-19-2014 at 11:02 AM.. |

Oh ok. So it's less random then I thought initially.

Yeah, I'm willing to bet it was definitely planned out and not random at all. Clearly, the regular version is how Stevie wanted it to be sequenced. But the "vinyl" decision threw her a curve ball. I'd be curious to hear her opinion of the "Deluxe" sequencing and if she's happy with that. Who knows, though ~ she very well could have sequenced both. Although, the vinyl sequencing seems to have been done so by someone else.

You could replace it with My Heart.

I still don't understand why it was relegated to bonus-track status.

Me either. I think it's better than several songs on the record.

Good idea, except instead of replacing "Barney" with "My Heart", I'd give "New Orleans" the boot and put "MH" there instead. Personal preference!

I agree, it's a better sequence of songs. If "My Heart" was somewhere in there, even better.
