Seeing the list of songs that would have been the year 2000 version of Gift of Screws, I thought I would post the track list that was circulated in 1996 as the Lindsey Buckingham solo album that had a schedule release date from Warner/Reprise of September 24, 1996. That is how far back some of these songs go.

1. Wear You Down
2. Come
3. Try for the Sun
4. Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind
5. Miranda
6. Gotta Get Away
7. Down on Rodeo
8. Hit and Run
9. Red Rover
10. She Smiled Sweetly

Oh, right. We still don't have "Wear You Down"! What is "Hit and Run"?

I think I remember the Best Buy Dance promo 2 disc set saying in the booklet notes that Lindsey's "new solo album" was due in spring of 1998...? So we're just now getting GOS 10 years later!

I have never heard Hit and Run, and I only heard a rough demo of Wear You Down, but they must have been brought to somewhere near completion if they were part of the track list that was being ciruclated by Warners. I think this version of the album was the one that Warners said we really love it, but we don't hear a hit. Then we got about 10 more possible release dates between 1996 and 2001. With songs like Twist of Fate, Bleed to Love Her, Steal Your Heart Away, etc. added to the track list. Interesting thing about those 3 tunes is that they are considerably more commercial than the original 10. So maybe Lindsey tried to please the powers at Warners?

"Wear You Down" would have fit nicely on the official Gift of Screws. Wonder if John and Mick did work on that track? That leaves that, the mysterious Hit and Run, Deep Dense, maybe a Stones track for the next Mac album at least. Geesh, Lindsey could seriously release another masterpiece this year if he wanted to. What a guy!

Songs that are out there from this 12 year period that never made an album.

Given Thing
Deep Dense
Blue Turns to Grey (Stones)
The Singer Not the Song (Stones)
She Smiled Sweetly (Stones)
Gotta Get Away (Stones)
Wear You Down
Hit and Run

I have to think that Lindsey covered the Stones songs to get his own creative juices going, as opposed to thinking he would make an album and put 4 or 5 Stones tunes on it.

In one of the interviews from last week, Lindsey said he is trying to release another album in 8 months, although he realizes that that is being a bit optimistic. Michele

Please Michele? I thought I read everything but I've missed this. In which interview he stated that?

For the 8 months comment, go to the Denver Westword Interview thread.

This is what Lindsey said:

Quote:
Just as important, he is planning to get started on a new recording immediately after his current tour. “I’d like to think that you will see another album from me in the next eight months,” he says. “Maybe a year.” He laughs: “Maybe I’m being optimistic.”

"That mysterious Hit and Run" is actually on GoS 2008 as Wait for You.

He WAS optimistic, though. 8 months became 13 years.
