Does FM need a great video to put this cd over the top?
With the lame Today show performance and the failure of the cd to debut higher than a 4 cut DVD (50 cent) and a reality show winner, (Kelly Clarkson), does anyone think FM must release a kick-ass video to push this new cd over the top? I feel they either have to make a great music video of one of the "show stopper" songs, or record a live concert like they did with The Dance to create a buzz. Otherwise, I think this cd will peak at 3, lose steam, and decline after new releases like Madonna and others who do videos lap them in the long run. If they can't sell their playing on shows like Today, or Leno, then it's time for serious damage control.
If I had any PR input, I'd try to convince them to do a video in which the band does not actually appear, except maybe so briefly it is not noticeable at first. I'd like to see them make something visual out of "Miranda" using the porn star theme. Maybe have the band as voyeurs peeking in on "Miranda." Just show their eyes or above the nose shots of people staring or looking at something, but we can't really tell who the eyes belong to. Make it a guessing game of sorts. Miranda is a song that can show them playing a song with a lot of different elements that appeal to different audiences. The core beat is straight funk, while the production has LB's favorite new wave elements, and the guitar licks will grab rock fans with the killer guitar solos. The right video might fool people (in a good way) into wondering who is that? Ya know, like a mystery band...don't tell who it is at first...just play the song/video and let people guess who it is. I think a promotion like that could help get a buzz around the band. They have to allow people to see them doing more than old Rumours tunes and safe FM ditties like SYW. Any other ideas about videos? |

If they do a video, I hope it's not for one of the "safe" tracks (Say You Will, Thrown Down...etc)
Miranda wouldn't be bad. What about something darker, like "Murrow..."? |

I think other than fact that many of us would like to see a video the value of a video is extremely limited. MTV plays very few videos and even if they did they would not play Fleetwood Mac. VH1 has also stopped playing videos with the exception of early mornings and late night. They show no videos in prime time. So my question to you is who is going to play it???
Again my point is that a video does not have the desired mass marketing impact you describe. It does however quell the thirst of some of the users of this board. The album is acutally exceeding record company expectations. Origianally hoped for a debut of 150,000 it is going to be over 200,000. For point of reference Stevie's 2001 solo album debuted at 105k, 1997's the Dance at 199k. |

Hmmm? My kids are watching them all the time, especially on weekends. They always have those top 10 or top 20 lists on. That's the only way I know what's popular since I only listen to classic rock, myself. I don't think it should be that way, but I still think video killed the radio star. Maybe I'm wrong? As far as the debut numbers, the Dance debuted at #1. I think SYW's debut at #3 will be as far as it goes unless something else pushes it over the top. Maybe a great video, but a bad one will do more harm than good, so I hope they don't make one just to make one. Ya know what I mean?

There are many more options for music videos today besides MTV or VH1. I have digital cable here and we get at least 10 music video channels of all sorts. If they made a video, it would be seen somewhere.
And I want a video! I can't believe we don't have one for Peacekeeper. It's just like when Stevie didn't have one for POTU. Ironically, that was her biggest hit from TISL, I think. But I don't care, I want vidoes and lots of them! The sad thing is, I think we're only getting one more single from this album. Didn't anyone else notice on the CD wrapper it said "featuring Peackeeeper and SYW." That usually means those are the only singles. |

You know what would be a good idea??? Elton John used Justin Timberlake to play him in his younger years in a recent video. Why not use younger celebrities to play Fleetwood Mac in the early years and then show the Fleetwood Mac of today...kind of combine what happened yesterday to the new Mac of today? I think that would be cute for Say You Will. It would even be EXCELLENT for Smile At You or Thrown Down (both of which I believe to be about Lindsey)...a young Lindsey and a young Stevie look-alike. That would rock and at the same time, bring in younger audiences because of the younger stars. People might watch the video because one of their favorite celebrities is in it and then really end up enjoying the song. If someone is reading this from the record company, ya'll should do that...seriously...and I accept checks and both large and small denominations of money

Drives my son NUTS when I know all the words to one of "his" generation's songs. I have had soo many thoughts about what could be done for videos, and I'm not even that creative! I thinks lots of cool things could be done. And regardless of what VH1 is doing schedule wise, videos are still important. I'll bet Madonna will have one splashed every where you look. Also, and don't hit me here, but I don't see anything wrong with getting a corporate sponser and making a commercial with one of the songs. Heck, I just saw a Toyota commercial last night that had a (I think, don't really remember) Rod Stewart song playing in the background. And it wasn't even a new song! I remember it from my youth. Has me thinking about Rod Stewart now, doesn't it. Publicity is there for the taking. Take it! susieq |

What my kids are watching seems to be a popular response. Fleetwood Mac and your kids are not in the same demographic group.
I am not trying to be a jerk here. I am trying to explain a little about a business that I have an understanding of. Videos for Adult oriented artists are not considered a major marketing tool anymore. Please get off the Number 3 debut. Say You Will sold more in its first week than the Dance which was number 1. The album exceed expectations by 60k plus copies at 211k. |

After not releasing a video for "The Rising," he made one for his second single, "Lonesome Day." I think the Mac should shoot one for SYW.

Aerosmith and my kids are not in the same demographic group either, but that didn't hurt the popularity of their last cd. The video for "Don't Want to Miss a Thing" was a smash even with a younger audience, and nobody seemed to care this song wasn't even written by the band! Just having a connection to a hit movie and a hot video made the critics and the public gush all over a band that was once considered wahsed up and done for.

Only if done...
...well with the right song. Yes, that's my choice, of course. I still love the days when video clips weren't needed to promote a song. Although I wasn't even born in those days... Oh well.

As much as I would welcome a video for PeaceKeeper, I don't think it would get much airplay if indeed it were made and also from past interviews both Stevie and Lindsey aren't always keen on doing them.
A way to get a video out to the public and I am not saying it should be for PeaceKeeper as I can really envision a video for Say You Will, would be for Mick to put together the video compilation that this band is long overdue to release. Mick sits on so many great goldmines but doesn't do it. Again, I could be an advisor and I would do it for free tickets to their shows

Thanks to Tracy at burnish.net for finding this!
Fleetwood Mac Peacekeeper Video To Be 'Added' Wouldn't it be great if it was an original story video, rather than just soundstage footage or something.
