For the past few months, I have been obsessed with Madonna. I've always been a big fan - so it's not as if I am discovering her music. I've been buying her catalogue on vinyl, buying maxi-singles I missed, buying posters - listening to Madonna and pretty much *nothing* else.
I believe that the music we find appealing, at any given moment in time, is usually a reflection of something internal. I have devoted so much time to darker themes, lovelorn songs, listless music, heartbroken and sorrowful expressions. But not right now - the last thing I want to hear is a sad song. What I haven't figured out is why, all the sudden, I'm in full-on Madonna mania. I keep thinking I'll get over it, but I haven't. I've been playing Confessions On A Dance Floor, Hard Candy, Ray Of Light, Music, even MDNA - over and over. And over. And dancing. I can't stop dancing to Madonna. I really feel like right now, the very best thing for me to do would be to quit my job, run away from home, and listen to Madonna all day and all night while dancing in a dark sparkly nightclub. Since my obsession began a few months back, she has appeared on TV with Macklemore at the Grammy's, launched her Art For Freedom project, dueted with Miley Cyrus, allowed rumours of a new album to leak, will be on stage with Pussy Riot in Brooklyn, and shown up on SNL. It's almost like my recent devotion is fueling her. I'm joking really. Anyway, I'm listening to this song, from Confessions On A Dance Floor, one of my favorite tracks from a perfect album.

My favorite Pink Floyd album. I only have a minty vinyl pressing, but it sounds great!

Quote:
I've never had the vinyl version of that album. The Immersion Box Sets are too expensive, but I had to have DSOTM and Wish You Were Here. Most especially the 5.1 Blu ray audio discs. It's a totally different experience. |

Yesterday was "all Clapton" since it was Eric's 69th birthday.
Derek & The Dominos Live at the Fillmore East. Listened to the late shows of 10/23/70 & 10/24/70, now listening to the early show on the 24th. (which was recorded on my dad's 42nd birthday). Even on the radio show "Breakfast With The Beatles", they did a set of songs from the Beatles or tunes that Eric Clapton played with one of the Beatles: While My Guitar Gently Weeps (White Album) Badge (Cream...co-written with George Harrison, who also played rhythm guitar on the track) Yer Blues (The Dirty Mac: John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards & Mitch Mitchell, from The Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus) If I Needed Someone (from Concert For George, lead vocal by Eric) Art Of Dying (from George's All Things Must Pass, George's backup band for most of the album was Derek & The Dominos) Other Clapton/Beatle collaborations: "My Valentine" by Paul McCartney (from Paul's album Kisses On The Bottom) "Freedom" by Paul McCartney (from Paul's Driving Rain album) George Harrison's tour of Japan in '90, Eric's touring band backed George (that resulted in George's Live In Japan album) The Live Peace In Toronto 1969 live album by John & Yoko, Eric played lead guitar throughout "Cold Turkey" single by John Lennon, Eric was on guitar Ringo's Rotogravure album, he covered Eric's composition "This Be Called A Song" And, of course, The Concert For Bangla Desh & the entire Concert For George albums.

The Beatles. Just... everything from the Beatles. I think I'm becoming obsessed. Dare I say it? I think I might be starting to love them as much as I love Fleetwood Mac.

My current obsession is the album Harlequin Dream by Boy & Bear. It's a lushly gorgeous album- very classic 70s in style & form. Sounds vaguely like something Alan Parsons might have produced back in the day.
