Didn't they experiment a little bit? If the answer is yes, then I'd say that's quite important.

1) John Mayall gave Peter Green free studio time for his birthday
leading to the formation of Fleetwood Mac

2) Peter Green quit Fleetwood Mac
eventually leading to Christine McVie joining

3) Jeremy Spencer went for a stroll in LA in 1971
leading to his departure from the band and Bob Welch joining the band

4) Danny Kirwan freaked out at a show in 1972 and therefore was fired
leading to Bob Weston being hired

5) Bob Weston & Jenny Fleetwood's affair during the MtM tour.
leading to litigation* with their manager at the time; emigrating to the USA (SoCalifornia specifically); Mick's hearing "Frozen Love" and meeting Lindsey & Stevie; and a *burnt out Bob Welch leaving the band opening the way for Lindsey & Stevie to join

1. Recruiting John McVie as the "new" bass player.

2. Mick discovering Lindsey Buckingham.

3. Rumours, one of the best, and best-selling, albums of all time.
(THE best, IMHO.)

4. Lindsey and Stevie finally working out their differences in '97.

5. The fact that Mick Fleetwood has always kept the band going, even when times reached the lowest of lows in the early/mid 90s, he never gave up.

Exclamation Hmm...

1. Mick listening to Frozen Love and recruiting Lindsey (and Stevie) in the band.

2. The break-ups...leading to Rumours.

3. Getting off drugs aka: Growing up/Letting bygones be bygones and rejoining for The Dance

4. Giving Clinton use of Don't Stop (helping them get back in the spotlight)

5. Heck, I'm gonna catch hell for this but the revolving door policy. *ducks* I love Peter Green, Danny Kirwan and Bob Welch, etc...and they are a part of the FM Legacy just as much as EVERYONE else, even Billy Burnette, Rick Vito and *gasp* Bekka Bramlett, even tho I don't care for that line-up. I guess seteca's #5 is also my #5 kinda, thank goodness Mick didn't give up or else FM would have died long ago when Peter left. Of course, we can say, oh, Mick's just a greedy money grubber, but THANK GOD HE IS!! LOL

1. Peter Green Coming Up With THE NAME: Definately one of THE coolest band names in music. It just has a certain ring to it. And, oddly enough, it represents the only two members who have been with the band since it's inception!

2. Mick Listening To Frozen Love/Bob Welch Quitting: Some things are just meant to be. Mick walks in and hears Lindsey's incredible guitar playing, a few weeks later Welch decides to leave. If Mick didn't walk in that day, who knows how different things would be.

3. Lindsey Producing Tusk: While most people don't appreciate the nuances this album has, I do. It gives me a much deeper respect for Lindsey, as well as the group for the decision to allow him to be the lead producer for the album. It showed what kind of producer Lindsey was and how off the wall he could be. It also gave us three of Stevie's best pieces of work.

4. Lindsey Leaving The Mac: Though, we as fans probably wish it didn't happen, it did and it was probably for the best for him and for the relationship. Everybody needed to do some growing up and some time to get themselves together. Besides if he didn't, we would have had OOTC!

5. Hiring Rick & Billy To "Replace" Lindsey: The lineup of Rick, Billy, Christine, Stevie, John and Mick was really dynamic. Rick is an excellent guitar player, awesome with the slide, Billy is a great vocalist as well as a talented song writer. Christine and Stevie had all ready proven their worth. While the BTM album didn't really show in truth the potential of the lineup, it was a good start. It's unfortunate however, that Rick and Billy never had a true chance to prove themselves to more fans.

1. Having Lindsey Buckingham as a guitarist, writer and producer who can play a numerous amount of instruments.

2. Doing drugs and all that comes with rock n roll. Without it we wouldn't have "Rumours"...and prolly "Tusk" in Lindsey case...LOL.

3. Experimenting

4. The Dance

5. New 2003 album

In a way I agree with u. I think that if the break-ups didn't happen, the Rumours might not have exsited.(sp?)

Talking jwd!!!

I tried to post yesterday about how good it makes one feel that another person uses a phrase of yours as a signature. It's fantastic, thanks.

OK, back on topic, the 5 most important things in Fleetwood Mac's carreer, to me, are:

1) Peter Green giving them a characteristic sound.

2) Christine marrying John, thus leading her to be a very well known singer, songwriter and performer.

3) Bob Welch joining the band, turning their sound into a more 'pop' approach.

4) Rumours (I don't need to add anything else )

5) The Dance, because it made so many people happy and at some point it even served to glue some lost links in the chain.

Song of the moment - Nothing Ever Changes
